Both his parents were from Virginia. His wife, Mary L., was born about 1821 in Illinois with parents who also originated from Illinois. I found an 1880 census of them in Precinct 7, Dallas, Texas. The children listed are Sarah E. Pruitt, 30, TX; Josaphine (sic) Pruitt, 17, TX; John M. Pruitt, 15, TX; and my Great Grandmother, Charlotte Pruitt, 14, 1866, TX, who married Andrew Jackson McCarty in 1885 in Texas; and Joseph W. Pruitt, 12, born in TX. >From my research, it appears that Joseph Pruitt's parents may tie into the families in Virginia since this is where they originate from. I would appreciate any census, marriage, land or birth leads that anyone may stumble across to solve this puzzle. Thank you so much. Corine

IF you go to the milam county page, and click on the newspapers, the Rockdale Reporter--often Phillips and Luckey has an advertisement on the right side of the screen with their address and phone number. It seems its an ad that rotates thru--I knew it was there--just never wrote down the information. Good Luck.
