Henry Balous KITE and wife Mary Sampier Kite lived in Milam co. before the 1900 census. They were in Burleson co. in 1870, Bowie by 1880 and moved through Erath-and Leon and again into Milam. Henry Balous known as H.B. Kite, was the oldest living son of Henry kite and margaret winafred williams kite of butler co. alabama. The oldest was George--and he married and disappeared-family has not discovered his fate. This family Kite moved to Harmon co.tx, Hollis area and homesteaded. Two months later after this was filed--the youngest brother of H.B. Kite -the baby brother --joseph denson kite eloped with lisa elizabeth "lizzie"dodd in milam co. 30 nov. 1902 and escaped by climbing out a bedroom window and riding on a mule to get married. He was 25 years old and she was 18. WE are grateful thanks to milam webmaster, Lynna Kay Shuffield for finding the below data-and taking the time and effort to post it.!! The bride is the daughter of one of the first settlers of the county, her father, now deceased, having served as sheriff of the county many years ago. Hamblen died at this home in Salado several days ago. He was one of the early settlers on the San Gabriel in this county, removing to Salado soon after the war in order to give his children school advantages. He was a minister in the Christian church and a noble man.
