Surnames: Gable Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/hkB.2ACE/8495 Message Board Post: Rockdale Reporter, Thur., 17 Ma 2005 "Area wrecks fatal to three - Man, wife die near Lexington; cow triggers Branchville fatality" An Oklahoma couple died Friday afternoon when the van in which they were riding hit a tree off US 77 one mile north of Lexington. Milam County had recorded its second highway death of 2005 the previous night when a Caldwell man was killed as the SUV in which he was riding struck a cow near Branchville. LEXINGTON - John Lemaster Jr., 72, and his wife Bobbye, 69, of Miami, Oklahoma, were pronounced dead at the scene, according to Lee County State Trooper Bruce Oppermann who said the accident was reported just before 5 p.m. Oppermann said the Lemasters were riding in a van with two other couples, the driver, 76-year-old Glen Raynard and wife Ruth, 71; Bob Riley, 73, of St. Charles, Missouri, and wife, Betty, 63. The Raynards and Rileys were treated for “non life-threatening injuries” at area hospitals, Oppermann said. “Everyone in the 1994 Ford van was wearing seat belts,” he said. Witnesses told the DPS the van had passed a pickup just before leaving the highway and striking the tree. BRANCHVILLE - Warren Dale Gable, 26, of Caldwell was pronounced dead at the scene just after 7:18 p.m. Thursday on FM 485 near Branchville, 17 miles northeast of Cameron. State Trooper Jimmy Morgan said Gable was a member of a roofing crew which was returning to the Bryan area when their 2000 Chevrolet Suburban encountered “a very big Black Angus cow in the road.” Morgan said Felipe Perez, 26, the driver, attempted to miss the animal but the SUV overturned, ejecting the four back-seat passengers who were not wearing seat belts. Felipe Perez, 26, of Bryan, listed as the driver, was treated at Central Texas Hospital, Cameron. Front-seat passenger Pedro Perez, 35, of Bryan was treated at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan. “Both front-seat passengers were wearing seat belts,” Morgan said. Norman Gable, 27, of Bryan, was flown to Scott & White Hospital, Temple. Jose Cruz, 30, of Bryan and Jose Avitud-Segura, 26, of Bryan were also treated at St. Joseph’s. SECOND WRECK—Minutes later a 1998 Oldsmobile driven by 67-year-old Alma Cox of Cameron slammed into the cow, killing the animal. Morgan said Mrs. Cox was not hurt but termed damages “extensive” to her car.
