Smith, 84, a resident of Sunny Ridge Nursing Home, died at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center on Monday morning, Jan. 24, 2005. She was born Dec. 30, 1920, in Rockdale to John and Rosa (Alford) Weeks. She attended grammar school in Mexia and graduated in 1937 from Van High School in Van. She was employed by the U.S. Navy Exchange as an accounting supervisor in offices located in San Diego, CA, at her retirement in 1993. Her career spanned 25 years with the Armed Forces Exchange system beginning with her employment at the Hickam Air Force Base Exchange in Honolulu, Hawaii, in the mid-1950s. In 1998, she came to Sheboygan to be closer to her daughter, Patricia Federer. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Baptist Church of Lemon Grove, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Wilbur Harmon, John Zitz, and Frederick Smith, Jr; two daughters, Phronsia Jean Harmon, and Pamela (Smith) Dove; and her sister, Willie Juanita Evans. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Carey Federer of Sheboygan; seven grandchildren, Joshua Small, Ryan Small and wife Megan, Gable Bohn, Nathan Bohn all of Sheboygan, John Kramer of Kansas City, KS, Jerusha Bancroft and Aurora Dove of El Cajon, CA; a great-grandson, Brandon Bancroft; former husband, Alexander Gonzalez of San Diego, CA; and loving friends, Ethel Marsh of Virginia Beach, VA and Sandy Waters of Sun City, CA. Graveside services of committal will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at Forest Grove Cemetery in Rockdale.

He was a retired supervisor for Alcoa at Point Comfort and Rockdale, a former EMT, volunteer firefighter, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a Catholic. He is survived by his wife Bettie Mae Holloway Hagaman of Blessing; his daughter and son-in-law Stacy and Andy Novak of Blessing; his son and daughter-in-law Cody and Marla Hagaman of Aransas Pass; mother-in-law Ruth Holloway of Blessing; sister Teresa West of Bay City; and grandson Dalton James Novak of Blessing. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bertha and James L. Hagaman Sr.; his father-in-law Floyd Merdith Holloway and by his brother Samuel Hagaman. Funeral mass was held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 21, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Blessing with Rev. Gary Janak officiating. Interment followed at Hawley Cemetery in Blessing. Mr. Obermiller, a retired grounds crewman for the Olin Teague V.A. Medical Center, was born May 9, 1937, in Rogers to Walter W. and Nada (McAnulty) Obermiller. He married Delois Pimpler on July 8, 1958. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam Conflict and then retired from the U.S. Army reserves. Mr. Obermiller was a member of the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2010, the Edwin Hardy Post No. 9 American Legion, D.A.V. Temple center, a member of the Cameron Evening Lions Club and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. A son, Daniel Glynn Obermiller, preceded him in death on March 8, 1980. Survivors include his wife Dee Obermiller of Cameron; daughter Debra Obermiller Blevins of Kingwood; brother Douglas Obermiller of Ashville, North Caroline; sister Ilynn Fuchs of Houston; grandchildren Jessica Blevins, Joshua Blevins and Jacob Blevins. A retired teacher and coach, Mr. Dockery died Tuesday, March 15, at his Cameron home after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Dockery was the only child born to Leola and Seth Dockery Sr. on Dec. 21, 1921, in Globe Hill near Giddings. He accepted Christ at an early age at the Globe Hill Baptist Church. He attended Globe Hill Rural School and graduated from Giddings Colored High School. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army’s 593rd Field Battalion during World War II. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Samuel Huston College in Austin (now Huston-Tillotson University) majoring in sociology and minoring in education where he also was a member of the Omega Psi Phi fraternity. He received his master of education degree from Texas Southern University in Houston. Along with his career, he was very involved in the church and community. At the time of his death, he was chairman of the deacon board and superintendent of Sunday School for Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, president of the brotherhood in the Lincoln District Missionary Baptist Association, president of the O.J. Thomas Alumni Association Cameron Chapter, and board director of the Cameron ISD Scholarship Foundation. Mr. Dockery was also active in the Yoe High Booster Club, Gideon’s International and the Future Farmers of America. He was a past president of Yoe High Booster Club, past president of Cameron Evening Lions Club, past director of the Cameron Area Chamber of Commerce, and past precinct chairman for the Democratic Party. Mr. Dockery received numerous awards for his volunteer work in the community from the Yoe Booster Club, Milam County 4-H, the Chamber of Commerce, State FFA, the NAACP and the Yoe Band Booster Club. He was also a three-time “Lion of the Year” with the Cameron Evening Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, Zelma Smizer Dockery; daughters Grace Dockery, Crystal Dockery, both of Temple; a son, Seth Dockery III of Dallas; a brother-in-law, David Smizer; sisters-in-law Margie Garcia and Earsilene Hudspeth; also, nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends. She was born in Minerva on Dec. 10, 1929, to William Fred and Minie Pearl Caywood Stephens. Moving from Rockdale in September 1943, her family settled in Galveston where she graduated from Ball High School. On Oct. 17, 1947, she married Jesse L. Tipple who preceded her in death in September 2000. They were married one month short of 53 years. Mrs. Tipple retired from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Over the years she worked as secretary for the Department of Pediatrics and for the president of UTMB. During the years before her retirement, she was administrative assistant to the chairman of the department of radiology. After retirement, she enrolled in piano lessons at Galveston College, fulfilling a life long dream of learning to play the piano. She continued her love of gardening and developed a passion for family genealogy. Mrs. Tipple was a member of the Galveston County Genealogical Society and the Texas City Ancestry Searchers. She was proud of her acceptance into the Daughters of American Revolution. She was active with her Ball High School alumni group. Mrs. Tipple is survived by her son Rick L. Tipple and wife Barbara and grand daughter Jessica Tipple and by her daughter Patricia A. Griffin and husband, Vince and grandchildren Barak and Laura Griffin. Private graveside services were held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Rockdale.

Trish Holland to augment the obituary of Cornelia Stribling published last week and provided by Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. Cornelia Stribling was born in the Stribling home, 526 W. Bell, Rockdale, one of eight children of C.K. and Mary Jeanette Copeland Stribling. Her grandfather W. E. Copeland was a traveling Presbyterian minister who founded the Presbyterian Church in Sharp.   She grew up in Rockdale and graduated from Rockdale High School where she was a cheerleader. She attended one year of college and worked for a while in Dallas as a governess. She lived and worked in Houston as a copier for Great Southern Life Insurance for 26 years. She returned to Rockdale 40 years ago and lived with her sister Catherine in their home on West Bell. She ran a flower shop, had a beautiful garden, and was a wonderful cook. She was an active participant in the First Presbyterian Church. Cornelia was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and one brother: Esta Quinlan, 1982; Becky “Brownie” Laurence, 1958; Ruth McClintock, 2003; Grace Dippel, Ralph Stribling, Catherine Stribling, 1990; and Helen McGuyer, 1999. Survivors are nephews, Mike McGuyer and wife Audrey of Houston and daughters Kathryn Cornelia “Katy” McGuyer and husband Josh Cornett of Austin, Molly McGuyer of Houston, Pat McGuyer and wife Jacki of San Antonio and her daughters: Dawn Doswell of Brookfield, CN, Heather Adams, Kym Kennedy and Kristen Larronaga of Kerrville; her nieces: Eugenia Abernathy of Mineral Wells, Sylvia Conoley of Austin and Ann Freestone of Orin, Utah; faithful caregiver Dorothy Thomas, devoted friends Donnie Rinn and Sis Estelle; and a host of great-nephews, nieces and friends.

He worked for CenTex Cotton Mill in Thorndale for 40 years before retiring in 1980. Mr. Hilton was preceded in death by his parents, wife Edna Hilton on April 1, 2000; a son, Robby R. Hilton, on March 3, 2005; brothers Shelby Hilton, Elwood Hilton, William Hilton; sisters Dessa Pinkerton, Annie Pinkerton, Omi Guthrie, Leola Guthrie and Opal Kay. Survivors include sons James L. Thelma was my grandmother on my father's side. I don't have much if any information about her or the rest of the family. I am very new at this so I haven't much on Granny or her family. I was origianlly looking for information on my grandfather Ernest Edward Andrews. He and Granny was married although I don't know when or where. Grandpa was shot and killed in 1946 in downtown Rockdale,Milam County Texas. However I haven't been able to find a birth or death record. All I was able to find on Granny was her obit and death record but nothing more. If you have any information I would be grateful and also please include any information on Grnny's family as well.....Carolyn

In regard to your questions my maiden name is Andrews, Johnny is my Uncle, my Father is Kenneth. And I would be grateful for any information you have and be even more grateful on any information you might have on granny's husband Ernest Andrews. If you don't mind me asking which sister was granny's youngest? I know that Aunt Idonia is the only survying sister at the time of Grannys death. I believe that daddy has a picture of granny and her sisters but not sure when it was taken or which sister is which. I'll look forward to hearing from you again soon...Take Care...Carolyn

We are related through my great-grandmother, Caroline Rebecca 'Becky' WISE (1861-1928) who married William Thomas 'Tom' BULLOCK (1861-1902). My grandfather, Samuel Joseph 'Joe'/'Jodie' BULLOCK (1897-1972), and Thelma's mother, Mary Lou WISE (1886-1919), were first cousins (1cou) and 6th cousins once removed (6cou1r). I think that makes you and me 3cou1r -&- 8cou2r. Allen and I are 3cou -&- 8cou1r. I would really like to get acquainted and swap family info with you.
