Willard, 91, of Florence were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Doug Springer officiating. Burial was in Black Jack Cemetery near Rockdale. Mrs. Willard died Saturday, May 21, in Rogers, AR. A resident of Florence for the past two years, she moved there from the Pleasant Grove community in Lee County where she lived since 1976. She was born March 1, 1914, in Traverse City, MI, to Thomas H. and Myrtle Harris. She married John William Willard on March 12, 1938, in South Bend, IN. Mrs. Willard, affectionately known as “Snibitz,” was a teacher and artist, retiring from teaching in 1977. She graduated from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI, in 1938 with a degree in elementary education and English. Mrs. Willard taught in Central Texas in a two-room schoolhouse. After having her children, she returned to teach in 1956 in Crossett, AR, where she taught elementary until 1977. Mrs. Willard also gave private art lessons and was an accomplished artist who was commissioned to produce several works of art for public and private institutions. In 1959 she was listed in Who’s Who in Arkansas and produced material on art for the book Art Week in America. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Willard, on June 23, 1991; a son, Tommy Willard, on April 22, 2003; a daughter, Dorothy Lee Estell; a grandson, Jason Willard, on June 12, 2004; her parents; and two brothers, Fred Harris and Wilford Harris. Survivors are a son, John W. Willard Jr. and wife Linda of Florence; a daughter, Mary Ford and husband James of Rogers, AR; a son-in-law, Julian Estelle of Hamburg, AR; a sister, Dorothy Petertyl and husband Julius of Traverse City, MI; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Harris of Traverse City, MI; also, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

He married Martha Jackson on Feb. 25, 1950, in Thrall. Mr. Williams worked for Alcoa for 33 years as a furnace operator, retiring in 1985. He was a member of New Jerusalem Christian Center in Rockdale and enjoyed fishing. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Williams; two brothers, Richard Williams Jr. and Freddie Williams; and his parents. Survivors are a son, Frank J. Williams and wife Brenda of Rockdale; three daughters, Edna P. Williams, Dorothy Mae Williams and Berthal Tasby, all of Rockdale; a brother, Edwin Williams and wife Doris of Rockdale; and a sister, Charline of Lubbock; also, 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

According to the 1900 census, he worked as a night watchman. He apparently went back to Georgia in about 1903 after 20 years in Milam County. He died in Georgia in June, 1905. Looking for any info on his years in Texas. Thanks.

I found children listed in our church records as William Schweke born june 23, 1880, marie elizabeth schweke born february 28, 1882, leonore schweke born march 10, 1883 and anna schweke born march 13, 1884. Lina Luetge was my great-grandfather's sister and at the time of the church records she was married to karl schone. she died at an early age and her three schone children were taken back to Gernany by my great grandfather. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 54 years, Edwin C. Leshikar on May 12, 2000. Skrhak, 49, of Rockdale were held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. John Warren of St. John’s United Methodist Church officiating. Mr. Skrhak died Friday, May 13, at Round Rock Medical Center. A longtime Rockdale resident, he was born Nov. 1, 1955, in Cameron to Raymond W. and Betty Jean (Crump) Skrhak. He married Cathy Herrmann on April 11, 1981, in Caldwell. Mr. Skrhak was a contractor and enjoyed traveling. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond W. Skrhak, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Roy and Dorothy Herrman. Survivors are his wife, Cathy Skrhak of Rockdale; three sons, Chad Skrhak, Brad Skrhak and Blake Skrhak, all of Rockdale; his mother, Betty Jean Skrhak of Rockdale; and a brother, Raymond Charles Skrhak of Rockdale. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one’s choice.
