My dad, Harry Strickland, worked for Humble (now Exxon Oil) from 1946 until his retirement in 1979. Needless to say, we moved around quite a bit as he was first a civil engineer, then a petroleum engineer. We lived in Midland 3 different times. In 1947 for a bout a year on South Mineola Street, now in a rundown section of town, in 1953-1955 on North Main Street near Crockett Elementary, now a vacant lot, then from 1957 thru 1967 on West Lousiana. I graduated from R E Lee HS in 1965, that being the first class to attend Lee all 4 years, 9th thru 12th. I have many fond memories of the people of Midland and the good school system, but not of the climate! I have no relations left in Midland and seldom get to visit anymore, but do think of it on occasions.
