Friendship Class St. John's Methodist Church Waco, Texas Choice Cookie Recipes Of The Friendship Class St. John's Methodist Church Waco, Texas pg 29 Chinese Chews 1 cup granulated sugar 1 cup dates, chopped 1/4 cup sifted all-purpose flour 1 cup nuts, chopped 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp salt 1/2 cup powdered sugar 2 eggs Sift together granulated sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. Beat eggs; add dates, nuts, vanilla extract and flour mixture; mix thoroughly. Place mixture in a greased baking pan 8x8x2 inches and bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees F.) for 40 minutes. While hot, cut in small squares and roll in powdered sugar. Makes about 4 dozen cookies.-Clara Carrigan ************** Molasses Cookies 1/2 cup molasses 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 tsp baking powder 2/3 cup melted shortening 1/2 tbsp ginger 1 egg well beaten 1 cup rolled oats 1 cup flour Mix molasses, sugar, shortening and egg. Sift flour, salt, baking powder and ginger. Add oats last. Roll thin, cut with cookie cutter and bake slowly. -Louise Swafford ***************** Maple Ice Box Cookies 1 lb butter 2 tsp. baking powder 1 lb brown sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 2 unbeaten eggs 1 tsp. mapeline 6 cups flour 1 tsp. vanilla Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and dry ingredients. Roll in wax paper and chill in ice box until ready to cook. Cut in thin slices and bake as needed.
