    1. James & Leishia Thornhill
    2. betty or gil allison
    3. On the 1880 McLennan County census is James and Leishia Thornhill. They are living next door to their daughter and son-in-law Mr & Mrs. George S (Margaret) Allison. James is listed as age 60, Leishia (Lacy) is 59. They lived near Valley Mills. On the 1900 McLennan County census James is dead. Leishia Thornhill is living with her daugher Lucy O'Roark. Leishia's age listed as 79. I think the 1900 census is precinct 7, not sure. I am trying to confirm dates of death, place of death, and burial sites for James and Leishia Thornhill. Thanks for any help.... Gil Allison

    2. Linda Jaschke
    3. Recently, I read a post to this group asking about a cemetary called "the old Howard cemetary" located near Troy. Does anyone know anything that can shed some light on the existence, now or ever, of such a cemetary? Sincerest thanks, Linda Jaschke

    1. Re: Woodmen of the World
    2. It was a mens organization, but in a nutshell it involved something akin to selling life insurance. Apparently it was more popular then, or maybe the men were looking for ways to get out of the house and have a meeting. They still have members and a web site http://www.woodmen.com -------------------------------------------------------- Insanity is my only means of relaxation. Dick L. 1. Richard Williams 1812-1857; Sarah Williams 1837-?
    2. David Strickland
    3. Richard Williams Jr was born @ 1812 in Blount County, TN. He moved with his family to Texas in the 1840s, eventually settling near Gatesville, Coryell County. He died in 1857 near Gatesville. Some time after that his remains were moved to an unmarked grave in the Old Howard Cemetary in Troy, Bell County, Texas. Richard was widowed in the 1850 census. He remarried between 1850 and 1857, county unknown. Richard's oldest child, Sara E Williams, was born in Blount County, TN @ 1837. She married somewhere in central Texas before the 1860 Census. Does anyone have the marriage record of Richard Williams Jr and his 2nd wife, name unknown? Does anyone have the marriage record of Sara E Williams and unknown. I did not find them in Coryell County, so either I overlooked the records or the father and daughter were married in one of the surrounding counties. Thank you very much. 1. Woodmen of the World
    2. Rosemary Bradford Grant
    3. I noticed that your ancestor belong to Woodmen of the World, and so did my grgrandfather. Can somebody tell us more about that organization. In my grgrandmother's box of treasures were the receipts that showed her husband and later her son had paid his yearly dues. She had a few poems and letters, and this proof of extended membership. It must have been a significant organization, but I don't know a thing about it. Rosemary Bradford Grant > Member of Woodmen of the World

    3. I will contact you direct, with some interesting "coincidences". None of your WEBBs ring any bells here, but there are several similarities that would indicate there is a connection, such as WOW, Downsville,TX (where I visited my gmother Webb most Sunday afternoons when small), and Cass County, TX, where the fifty or so Webbs in my database came through (to Downsville, McLennan, TX in 1878). 3. Pat, Have you sent a note to Woodmen of the World for any records they might have on your grandfather. Send email to Records@woodmen.com. Woodmen of the World P.O. Box 266000 Highlands Ranch, Colorado 80163-6000 Phone: 303-792-9777 Toll-free: 1-800-777-9777 Their website is www.woodmen.com. Being a native Texan, I had never heard of Harleton and Bivins and checked their locations. Bivins is in Cass County and Harleton in Harrison. Have you checked these counties at TxGenWeb for cemetery listings. There is a cemetery in Downsville but I heard it is very small and abandoned.
