Seek information on & descendants of MINAS & ANNA (HAMILTON) GARDNER. Minas was born in DeKalb Co., AL in 1840, and served in Wheeler's Cavalry during the Civil War. The 1880 Census of McLennan Co. suggests that after the war he moved to Arkansas before settling in Texas. Family tradition says he died in 1882, but I have no documentation for this, nor do I know where he's buried. Any help on these questions would be greatly appreciated. While I have fond memories of my one visit to Waco, it was for a professional conference, & I'm a neophyte at doing genealogical searches in Texas. Many thanks, Joseph Gardner jgardner@iglou.com 236 Barberry Lane Lexington, KY 40503 859-278-3016

One of my family puzzles is where James and Leishia Thornhill are buried. I suspect McLennan or Bosque county because they and other family members farmed near Valley Mills, they have always been in the McLennan County census. I found Leishia living with her daughter, on the1900 McLennan County census, they were in Precinct 7, Leishia is listed as a widow. From letters, James must have died between 1894 and the time of the census information. I wonder if Precinct 7 of the 1900 census was in the Valley Mills area because in earlier years they farmed in that area. In 1880 they were listed in Enumeration District 114. I am thinking if they stayed in the same area, James would be buried close by. So my question is: does anyone know if in 1900 Precinct 7 included the area adjacent to Valley Mills? Gil
According to the Ancestry.com brief description, Precinct 7 includes District 108 and 109. They include Crawford town East and West of the Santa Fe Railroad. I hope this helps. For Pat Webb, I have access to the 1900 census for Mclennan County. I just this week found my own granmother in it. I would need to know the names you are looking for and the area. If you would provide those , I would be happy to look for you. And if anyone has access to the 1910, I would appreciate a look up for Miles Butler, Hattie Sims. With them should be Ethel Mae, Clarence, maybe Lillie and Rosie. Betty Collins
A great source to learn about towns and communities thru out Texas and more. Becareful, there are two Patrick's: one in Rusk Co., one in McLennan. Since links won't work on the rootsweb lists, do a search for Handbook of Texas Online or try tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/index.new.html be sure to add the www. ahead of the beginning....
Hi, Is the census information for 1900 and 1910 online for McLennan County? My grandfather was a rural postman in Downsville, TX in 1907. He died in 1910, and is buried in Center Cemetary in Harleton. Is there any information on Downsville online? I have searched and can not find Downsville listed on the websites. Thank you. Pat Webb
Saturday I could check the Soundex for 1920 and then find them on the census. Send me the names if you want me to look. Can someone help me please? I am trying to find my dad and his parents in the 1920 census, my dad would have been 3 years old. The problem is there is Precinct 1, and then Ward 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6, and then more Precincts, 2-8, and more Wards for those Precincts. There are so many to go through it would take me forever and I would probably be blind by then. They lived at 1320 South 5th Street, Waco, TX (There house would have been right in the middle where Baylor University is now). Is there anyway to find out which Precinct and Ward this address belongs to? I would appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Pamela Atkinson Hakala
I copied this from "Ancestry Weekly Digest" to share with you. I think it is of interest to all genealogist. I hope you will take time to read George's article and become part of "making this happen." Jonelle Ellis Russell <ljrussell@earthlink.net> ___________________________________________________________________ "MAKE FAMILY HISTORY MONTH HAPPEN!" by George G. Morgan ("Along Those Lines . . .") Family History Month is not a "done deal" yet. Congress is off on its annual summer vacation and a recent search of the Thomas Web site reveals that no such resolution has yet been introduced. In order to declare October "Family History Month" beginning this year, the resolution must be introduced, passed, and signed. It is almost September and much work still needs to be done. George discusses how Family History Month can benefit you and your research, and what we can do to make it happen. He includes sample letter for readers to send in to legislators in Washington. <http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/columns/george/4468.asp> REPRINT POLICY: We encourage the circulation of the Ancestry Daily News via non- profit newsletters and lists providing that you credit the author, include any copyright information (Copyright © 1998-2001, MyFamily.com Inc. and its subsidiaries.), and cite the "Ancestry Daily News" (http://www.ancestry.com/dailynews) as the source, so that others can learn about our free newsletter as well.
Can someone help with a obit. lookup? RE: Angeline (Gallaway) Dyess Burried in Battle Cem. DOD December 15, 1900 Thanks Chuck Dyess GA.
I am seeking information from the marriage record of Thomas B. "Ben" Doyle and Jennie Box who were married in Waco in 1904. Also any info on related Doyles around Waco and Gholson from late 19th & early 20th century. Thanks, Phil Doyle
There seem to be two surveys. For this one, the cemetery is divided into four sections by alphabet: http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/Texas/mclennan.html And this is the second: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/tx/topic/cemeteries/Etx/McLennan/cemetery/FirstO.htm I can't get any idea from either whether the data was taken by reading stones or whether any cemetery records are still in existence. I would like to inquire where, online, are the records for the subject cemetery. I'd be even more pleased to find where any records for the cemetery may be found in Waco. I am a descendant of Clementine (Jones) Arnold, and there are four of her children with markers there beside her. The Waco Times-Herald (old name) once stated that CJA's "was the oldest grave in this cemetery", and she died 19 Sep 1855. My specific interest is in the marker for Thomas T Hooks, her son, who died in Confederate service on 26 Dec 1861 at the Battle of Chustenanlah, near Tulsa, OK. I recently discovered that a brother of his was in the same 6th TX Cavalry and I , having long assumed the marker for TTA was over an empty grave, began to wonder if brother James Marshall Arnold brought his brother's body home for burial. I would appreciate a post here from anyone with knowledge of the cemetery records location. Happy huntin', Ben in Fort Worth

I have a question about the online data for this cemetery. Are the names and dates taken solely from stones, or are there records of burials? I'm asking because of Q. R. Thompson and his wife Sallie. Sallie has her death date by her name, and there is no date by Q. R. (Quintus). Would this indicate that he isn't buried there, that the stone was unreadable, or what? Thanks for any help.
