Carol, where is this cemetery located. Maybe this is where my gggrandmother is buried. Sarah Jane Askins, d. March 4, 1901, interred at Mart, Texas. We've looked at the big cemetery in Mart and didn't find her. This almost sounds like the one we have been working on, Harper Cemetery in Elk. It is 3 acres of thorns and briars and we can't seem to get ahead of it. Without equipment and enough people to help, it's a losing battle. Maybe it you publish the surnames of those you found, then those relatives will come forward to help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Couch" <ccouch@hot1.net> To: <TXMCLENN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, February 23, 2002 9:42 PM Subject: FW: Endangered Cemetery > > > > Subject: Endangered Cemetery > > > There is a small cemetery just outside of Mart that has burials back to > 1891. Subject: Endangered Cemetery There is a small cemetery just outside of Mart that has burials back to 1891. I have become very concerned for this cemetery and ask the list for ideas, help, encouragement. This cemetery is almost invisible, and is covered in thorns and brush. I don't know who owns the property, but there is access from the main road. I would like to do something to fix this cemetery up and discover more graves in the process. Does anyone know where to start, and how to go about this? I have recorded the names I could get without killing myself. Also is there anyone on the list who would help me? I would hate to think that my relatives were buried here. Please offer any and all suggestions. Carol Couch

From Waco, take Hwy 84 toward McGregor. At Harris Creek Rd. (across from McGregor Municipal Airport, turn left onto Harris Creek Rd. Go 7/10 mile just past eh railroad tracks and immediately take turn to left onto a dirt road that runs back along side tracks. The dirt road curves around and runs into a paved road. Off to the left is the Harris Creek Baptist Church, and church. These were the instructions in 1982 furnished by the lady who copied the cemetery.
