Hi Shirley, If a death certificate was issued, it may be in McLennan County (Vital Records Office) or in Austin (Texas State Library and Archives Commission) or both. TX death records have been kept at the state level since 1903. For a lookup, scroll to the bottom of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission web page and e-mail your request to them (her name, when and where you think she died). Texas State Library and Archives Commission, Texas Vital Statistics: http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/arc/vitalfaq.html Or you can contact the McLennan County Vital Records Office Waco-McLennan County Public Health District Vital Statistics Division 225 W. Could anymore tell me who to call or write to get a death certificate for Martha Ann (Lee) Moore. She was born about 1826 or 26 in the Edgefield Districct of South Carolina then moved to Mt. Hilliard, Alabama. Her husband was Daniel Moore. She died in Waco, Texas, February 15, 1905 or 1906. I'm trying to find out who her parents were and hoping the death certificate will tell me. Thank you for your help. Shirley Norfolk e-mail: snor222563@aol.com
Hello, I am trying to learn more about some old family photographs. Several are from Staut's, 503-1/2 Austin Street, Waco, TX Does anyone on this list know the years that Staut's studio was in business? Thanks, Marlinna Stringer Westbank, BC Canada (formerly of Waco)

Howdy, The USGS site show Childress Creek to be in Bosque and McLennan counties. In McLennan County, it's on the China Mills USGS Map. But it doesn't show a Childress Creek Cemetery anywhere in Texas. I find no listing for Childress Creek Cem in Animap software, nor a cemetery symbol for one near Childress Creek in Roads of Texas. The creek begins up almost due north of Clifton, flows by Womack, Cayote, and into the Brazos WSW of Gholson so only the last few miles are in McLennan Co. Wonder if the cemetery might be in Bosque Co? There is a cemetery symbol near Womack, only a little removed from the creek, but no other cemetery symbol is shown anywhere along the length of the creek. Sorry, not much help. Ben

Hi, Just signed on to this list. Is there anyone that can look-up a Waco city directory for me. I am looking for Franklin Weems or Fannie GUYER in 1930. I appreciate the help. Mike
Good Day! My 3rd great-grandparents, and most of their children, settled in this area in the 1860's or 1870's. My gg-grandfather stayed in MO but did make two trips to Texas in hopes of settling there. Both times he decided against it and returned to MO. On the first trip, their 2nd daughter was born, 1873. All I have is that she was born in TX. I don't know if it they were with family in Mc Lennan at the time. Are there birth records available from that year? If so, would you direct me to them? I do not live in Texas, so addresses are helpful. Thank you very much, Janice
According to the Handbook of Waco and McLennan County, Texas: Hermoson, in central McLennan County, three miles east of Waco, was the name of a post office which opened in April 1894, when Charles J. Keesee was appointed postmaster. In March, 1903, Hermoson was renamed North Waco. The post office was discontinued in July, 1905. Peggy Duty, Volunteer "P. & A. These coordinates are about 5 miles west of Crawford on Cedar Rock Parkway. About 20 miles west of the center of Waco, Texas. Hi, My Uncle James Burnett died in Waco in 1939. I don't know when his wife Ella Zell Burnett died. I also know they had 2 children, one G. Zell Burnett, a son, was a baker as was his father. One bakery was named Bahme (?) Bakery. I'm wondering if anyone has ever come across G. Zell Burnett. I'd love to know if he had children or stayed in Waco. I'd also like to find out if James' wife is buried with him at Rosemont Cemetery. If anyone is ever there could you take a peek and see if there are any stones by James' stone? Thank you, Lisa in PA
Hi Teresa, Check out the following link on Rootsweb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~iaclinto/cems/symbols.htm There is a list of common tombstone symbols at this site. F L T is an acronym used by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Howdy Teresa, I think the web page of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows can answer your question. Their first paragraph says: In 17th century England, it was odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need and of pursuing projects for the benefit of all mankind. Those who belonged to such an organization were called "Odd Fellows". Odd Fellows are also known as "The Three Link Fraternity" which stands for Friendship, Love and Truth. Anyone know about Barton Cemetery and where it is? I have been searching for the graves of James and Leishia Thronhill for a long time. The Thornhills lived just east of Valley Mills in McLenn County and died during the 1900 - 1910 time period. Recently I was told that their grandchild, Leona Beebe may be buried in Barton Cemetery. Leona Beebe's death circa 1898. Since she was a child when she died, wondered if grandparents were buried at the same place. Gil
> Can anyone give me directions to the Robinson Cemetery? > > I am going to be in the area tomorrow. > > Thanks, > > Diane Robinson Cemetery is in the Town of Robinson (originally Robinsonville) Robinson is approx. 10 miles southeast of Waco on highway 77. I believe the Waco exit off I-35 is Valley Mills Drive, Highway 77 is one of the roads off "the circle". It travels southeast through Robinson eventually through Cameron.. There is a small sign I think on right side of the highway pointing to Robinson cemetery. It is a two lane road through some residential and as I recall there are a few curves before the cemetery. The cemetery is well kept, I was lucky the day of my first visit the keeper was there and check his layout of the cemetery to direct me to the graves of my g-grandfather and his sister. If in doubt stop at one of the service stations for directions. Good luck with your search.
