ALL I want for Christmas Dear Santa: Don't bring me new dishes; I don't need a new kind of game, Genealogists have peculiar wishes; For Christmas, I just want a surname. A new washing machine would be great, But it's not the desire of my life. I've just found an ancestor's birth date; What I need now is the name of the wife. My heart doesn't yearn for a ring That would put a real diamond to shame. What I want is a much cheaper thing: Please give me Mary's last name. To see my heart singing with joy Don't bring me a red leather suitcase. Bring me a genealogist's toy; A surname, with dates and a place! Anonymous ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm sure Santa's mailbox is overflowing, but I hope he answers your letter, and brings you the clue to get you through, over, under or around that genealogy brick wall. Best wishes to you and your families for all the joys the season can bring. May we all have peace and properity in the New Year. Jo Russell

Can someone help me? I remember seeing on the net where you could order microfilm of the early Waco newspapers. Seems they were ordered with interlibrary loan and I also thought Baylor was in this somewhere. But I can't find the source. Does anyone know if the 1900 - 1920 Waco newspapers are on microfilm and can be borrow thru interlibrary loan?? Gil

Sure do need some help! I would like to know who or whom to contact, to learn of the names of the students that attended a Waco boarding school, during the 1870's & 80's. My ancestor Alfred William Morris, sent his daughters off to boarding schools in Waco, and I wish to learn if any records exist. Also would like to know if boarding students would have been listed on any particular census schedule, or would they be listed only if they were being raised at such a school - as in a convent. Thanks, Sallie Cannon
Hi Donna, The parents names and birthplaces would be on Maggie's death certificate. The Texas State Library and Archives Commission can tell you how her name appears on her death certificate. And how to get a copy of her death certificate. Scroll to the bottom of their web page and e-mail your request to them. http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/arc/vitalfaq.html Bill Allen <misterbill@pdq.net> Donna Kile Van Benschoten wrote: > BlankHi Everyone, > I was wondering if someone could look up a death record for me? BlankHi Everyone, I was wondering if someone could look up a death record for me? The name is Sennie Margaret Melinda Arkansas Jane Patrick. Probably listed under either S. M. Patrick or Maggie Patrick. S. M. is the way the tombstone reads. She died September 15, 1932. She was born Nov. 23, 1875. I am particularly interested in her parents names, their surname should be Boyd. Thanks, Donna --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Are there any Bosque/McLennan County researchers out there that know anything about a killing that took place on or about the 8th of May, 1875 in the Bosqueville/Valley Mills/McGregor area of Bosque Co/McLennan Co? Family legend has it that William H. Gallaway (a veteran of the Civil War) was murdered by a neighbor when he went to retrieve a plow he had loaned the neighbor. The copy of the family story I have says that "Billy" was well respected and much loved in the neighborhood and his neighbors were so much alarmed at his murder that they formed a posse and chased down the murderer 'like a mad dog' and 'killed him like a rattlesnake'. Texas talk sure is colorful ain't it? An oldtimer in Waco in the 1940's told a family member (Mary Selman Gallaway Dodson) that he had ridden in the posse that made sure justice was done for Billy many long years before. Billy is buried in Rock Church Cemetery next to an infant son. Billy married Sally Barnett about 1869 or 1870 (conflicting sources) and had a son and two daughters before his untimely death. One daughter Laurie lived out her life in Waco and had two sons and daughter Annie Laurie who also lived in Waco in the late 1950's. I do not yet know Laurie's married name nor her sons' names. Billy was an older brother of Rev. Robert V. Gallaway, ME Church South, whose descendants to this day populate Waco and other Texas towns. R.V. died at home in Aquilla in 1911 and was buried in Walnut Springs. I'd like to correspond with anyone related to these Gallaway men or anyone doing research on Texas Frontier Justice. Can anyone supply driving instructions to the Rock Church Cemetery? Thanks and much obliged. Dave Johnston Self-appointed Family Historian/Genealogist

It's been a while since we had this discussion. However, moma was rummaging out in that out building of hers and found a Texas map from 1934. She is an antique junker or a junkie antiquer, maybe even an antiquie junquie.. Anywho, the map showed leaving Waco headed toward Bryan, like now, Hwy. 6. But going opposite of that to Valley Mills and upwards to Dublin and other places, I forget now just where it 'died', was State Hwy. 67. I run just parallel to the Bosque River, which was betw. the hwy. and China Spring. You couldn't tell, but likely on the China Spring Road of that day there must have been a cut off that that linked up with State 67. Running as it did towards Dublin, Eastland, it crossed with U.S. 67. That must have been confusing...both a U.S. and a State hwy numbered 67!. So when they changed things up, it appears, State 67 was 'dropped' down some to the present day location of State 6 that goes out to Speegleville, Valley Mills, etc. They just dropped the 7. There is a hyw. 67 that still runs thru Cleburn. Teresa Parrish G.O.S.P.E.L. - God Offers Sinful People Eternal Life
