    3. May 17, 71 Hi Pat, I got your letter asking about the McLaughlin's. I don't know too much as I've been out of touch with them for years. Bill and Ethel Jewel "Dutch", spent a Sunday with us in Hobbs, NM in 1937. I haven't heard from them since. I did have a letter from Aunt Stella a couple of years ago saying Bill had died. He was a few months older than me. I met Sam McLaughlin on a troop train between Ft. Worth and Denver during WWII. That's the lastI've heard from him. He is Uncle Adis' boy. I will tell you what I know about the McLaughlins. Grandpa Henry C. came to the U. S. from Ireland when he was seven years old. He was a Confederate soldier and had brother in the Union Army. Our family had a lot of his papers that was destroyed in a flood. I'm sorry I didn't read them better. There were only two kids in our family, my sister and me. Our mother died when I was 20 months old. There were six boys and one girl in Dad's family. Four of the boys lived to be grown. They were Marley, Ed, John, Jim, Jo and Adis and Sally. I think that it the order but don't bet on it. Uncle Marley had a family when he was killed. Some of them were living in Montana the last I heard but that was 40 years ago. Dad had newspaper clippings telling about the trial of the Mexicans that killed Uncle Marley but it's lost too. One of Uncle Mac's girls lives in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Her name is Ruby but I don't know her last name or addressThe last time I saw her was in 1930. I have five girls and one boy. The girls are all married, all we have at home is the boy. I worked for the city of Gillette from 1940 until loast spring when I quit. I was Street Superintendant. I am now building roads in the oil field. Those 12 to 14 hour days are a little rough on a guy born so long ago. Maybe you could get some addresses from Mrs. Lloyd Phillips 286 Lighton Drive, Ventura, California. Come to see us. We have lots of room and like company. We live at 314 Lakeside. Just ask anywhere in town for Red or Rose McLaughlin. Alva George McLaughlin, born June 24, 1909, Knowles, NM Red
