He was born December 22, 1923, in Spring, Texas, to the late Willie B. and James Nannie Collins McGill. Mack was a resident of Bay City since 1968, a member of the Methodist Church, and a member of the Masonic AF&AM Lodge No. 40 in Victoria, Texas. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 42 years of service. Mack’s enthusiasm for life was obvious and he enjoyed good food, music, dancing, gardening, barbeque and especially deer hunting, which he did for many years, and was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. For the last two years, Mack endured declining health, refusing to submit, choosing rather to focus on his family, friends and life. His unfailing humor and spirit will be remembered by all of those fortunate to know him. The family wishes to thank everyone who participated in Mack’s care. It has been a large number of people, and you’ve all been wonderful. Daddy grew fond of so many of you. Please remember Daddy with a smile and know that he is in a better place, telling stories and planning jokes and celebrating his new life. Survivors include: daughter and son-in-law, Charla and Jim McMichael of Friendswood, Texas; son, Mark McGill of Angleton; one grandson, Andy McMichael, who was the light of his life; his sweetheart, Margaret Meador of Bay City, with whom he had so many good times and great memories; and the Meador children and grandchildren, whom he lived for the days he could spend time with them. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and was blessed to have many lifelong good friends. He was preceded in death by: his wife, Bettie McGill; and all five brothers and sisters. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, 2005, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, with the Rev. John-Nelson Pope officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery.
