He was born April 17, 1934 in Live Oak, Texas to the late John Woodard and Annie Mary Ashcraft. He was a life long resident of Van Vleck where he farmed and ranched, a member of the Matagorda County Cattleman's Association, past director of the Matagorda County Fair Association, drainage district director, past Van Vleck ISD board member, and past director of ASCS farm services. Survivors include: his wife of 47 years, Frances Ashcraft of Van Vleck; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jan and Ruben Lopez of Van Vleck and Judy Langston of Van Vleck; son and daughter-in-law, John and Fara Ashcraft of Bay City; grandchildren, Jase Ashcraft of College Station, Matthew Ashcraft, Taylor Ashcraft and Ryan Ashcraft all of Bay City, Mariah Langston and Kate Langston both of Van Vleck; brother, Wyatt Ashcraft of Van Vleck; and sisters, Irene Lehmann and Maxine Gibson both of Bay City and Mary Elizabeth McMinn of Dallas. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother John Ashcraft; brother, Wade Ashcraft; and sister, Grace Anderson. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Craig Ashcraft and Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers will be Scott Arbuckle, Joe Crain, Todd Keaton, Mike Pruitt, Dan Pustka and Paul Lowery. Honorary pallbearers will be Danny Andel, Billy Bode, Kenneth Brune, Jock Cole, Mike David, Charles Fitzgerald, Leroy Keaton, Billy Mann, Tommy Phillips, Billy Penny, Danny Shindler, Jame Starks and Lee Weathers. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association and Cattleman's Association Fund, IBC Bank, PO Box 471, Bay City, TX 77404-0471.
