She was the eighth of 13 children. When Ila was five years old, her father moved their entire family from Lee County to Matagorda County by train. Three generations and all of the families possessions and livestock made the journey. Ila spent her most of her life in and near Bay City. The Williams family operated a farm near Bay City. An adjacent farm was operated by the Holloway family. Four marriages resulted between these neighbors; three Holloway brothers and a sister married two Williams sisters, a brother and a cousin. Ila married John Henry Holloway on Oct. 27, 1934, in Bay City, Texas, with her sister, Edna, attending. Four children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren resulted from this union. John passed away on May 9, 1973. Ila is survived: by her daughter, JoAnn Holloway Highfield of Kerrville; her granddaughter, Jennifer Highfield and husband Jimmy Furr and great-grandson, J.W. of Ingram; grandson, Travis Highfield and wife Debbie of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel of Minnesota. Daughter, Jean Holloway Witt and husband Gerald of Camp Verde, Texas. Her grandson, David Witt, wife Jeanna and great-grandsons, Jake and Josh of Denton, Texas; granddaughter, Marla Witt McCarty, husband Brian and great-grandchildren Kyle, Katie and Claire of Kerrville. Daughter, Sue Holloway of Center Point, Texas. Her granddaughter, Melissa Fisbeck Pearson, husband Tony and great-granddaughters, Emily and Savannah of San Antonio; grandson, John Mitchell Fisbeck, wife Becky and great-grandchildren Nate and Shelby of The Woodlands, Texas. Son, John Henry Holloway, Jr. and wife Billie of Spring Branch, Texas. Grandsons, Michael Holloway; Kenneth Holloway of Houston; Dusty Brimberry of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Jason Brimberry and wife Courtney and great-granddaughters Zoe and Mia of Grand Prairie, Texas. Ila moved to Kerrville, Texas, to be near her daughters. She was a proud member of the Center Point United Methodist Church. Her favorite pastimes included handwork like quilting and embroidery. She lived independently until the age of 92. Ila Holloway passed away peacefully on Feb. 20, 2006, in Kerrville, Texas, surrounded by her family. Her wisdom and sense of humor will be greatly missed. Ila is survived by: one brother, F.J. Williams and wife LaVerne of Bay City. She is preceded in death by her husband, six sisters and five brothers. Her funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas, with the Pastor Mack McKinney officiating. Interment followed at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck, Texas. Family received friends at Taylor Bros. from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday evening. Honorary pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will include Ila’s great-nieces and nephews. Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.
