He was born November 30, 1934, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Eddie Joe Parma and Huberta Bowie Peterson. Mr. Parma was a member of the Cedar Lane Baptist Church and a resident of Lake Jackson since 1956. In 1986, he retired from Dow Chemical as a foreman, with 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Air Force from February 12, 1952, to February 11, 1956. On June 12, 1954, he married Thelma Jean Sirmon in Cedar Lane, Texas. Mr. Parma enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball, as well as golfing, taking care of his cattle and RVing with Thelma. Survivors include: his wife of almost 52 years, Thelma “Jeanie” Sirmon Parma of Lake Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Cliff Phillips of Lake Jackson; grandson, Clay Phillips of Lake Jackson; sister, Ada Stange of Victoria, Texas; mother-in-law, Thelma Sirmon of Bay City; his best friend and golfing buddy, Jack Reimer; and his beloved dog, “Dolly.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hubert and Ada Bowie, who raised him, and by his father-in-law, Earl Sirmon. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Jackson, Texas, with the Rev. Scott McKay officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas, with the Rev. William Hodge officiating. Pallbearers will be Hollie Urban, Clyde Pray, John Ashcraft, L.Z. Bryan, Leon Morris and Ron Anderson. Honorary pallbearers include Clyde Ashcraft, W.F. “Bill” Mays, Jack Reimer, Leslie Dacke and Henry Gretschel. Visitation will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood Chapel and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Arrangements with Taylor Bros.
