Came to New York from Darmstadt, Germany (western side of Germany near border). Didn't like New York, and so moved to Texas for land. Not sure on order of children, but have set them according to 1880 census ages of children found. 1850 U.S. Census lists Charlotte, Jacob's wife, as owning $1200 of real estate. Jacob Schmitt is not on the 1850 or 1880 census. He died before 1850.
