He was born March 31, 1924, in Jupiter, Florida, to the late Abner and Bessie Martin Brooker. Mr. Brooker was a member of the Cedar Lane Baptist Church and a resident of Cedar Lane since 1990. He served with the 1st Marine Division during World War II. He participated in occupations of Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, Peleliu and the Palau group of islands. He was wounded in action September 1944. Mr. Brooker retired as a supervisor from Serta Mattress Co. after 40 years of service. Survivors include: his wife of 60 years, Kathryn Shipman Brooker of Cedar Lane, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Lee and Nancy Brooker of Bay City; sister, Nina Jean Price of Florida; brother, Elmer Brooker of Okeechobee, Florida; five grandchildren, Katie Brooker, Justin D. Brooker, Amanda L. Brooker and Mycah K. Brooker, all of Bay City, and Jannell Bostic Davidson of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by: his son, Edgar Lee Brooker; brothers, Cecil, Kermis, Edward, and Lecoats Brooker; and sisters, Bessie O’Neal and Gladys Lanier. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 29, 2006, at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Zack Nicholson officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas. Arrangements with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. The Bay City Tribune January 29, 2006 Matagorda County, Texas
