He was the oldest of three children of the Griggs family, and shared his upbringing with his siblings, other relatives and friends. Robert grew up in the community of his birth. There he attended public school and was a graduate of the Bay City High School class of 1971. He accepted Christ at an early age while attending the worship services with his family. He was baptized by now the late Rev. A.H. Pointer and became a member of Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church in Bay City. He was a good follower and held firm to his faith and trust in God even unto his demise. He was formerly united in marriage to Joycelyn Hebert, to whom was born a son, Robert Earl Johnson, Jr. In life, he was affectionately known as “Robert Earl,” and was always willing to find his place in the “sun.” His smile, warm handshake and sweet disposition were evident he intended to be a friend to all mankind. By his passing, he will be remembered by those who knew and loved him while living here on earth. His transition from this life came Sunday, November 6, 2005, in Bay City, Texas, at 53 years, one month and 21 days. Many memories are left to his faithful and devoted mother, Eddie Lou Griggs of Bay City; four children, Robert Johnson, Jr. (and Trisha) of Kansas, Nanita Johnson and Karina Johnson Clements of Bay City, and Miranda Johnson of Beaumont; four grandchildren; two sisters, Charlotte Griggs Knapp of Houston, and Gladys Griggs Agu of Bay City; two half-sisters, Earlene Carter and Sheila Carter; two half-brothers, Jonathan Carter (Diane) and Ellis Carter; godbrother, James Robinson (and Vivian); and two nieces, Falanda and Erika. Also: three nephews, Troy, Shannon and Fredrick; four aunts, Alma Johnson Fields, Gloria Johnson Moore, Mammie Johnson and Ruby Griggs Matthews; and nine uncles, Wesley Johnson, James Johnson, Gifford Johnson, Jr., Paul Johnson, Curtis Johnson, Ellis Griggs, Robert Griggs, the Rev. Murry Griggs and the Rev. Eugene Griggs; four great-aunts, Dilcey Johnson Williams, Luberta Johnson Ashton, Thelma Tellison and Elizabeth Monroe Greer; one great-uncle, the Rev. M.L. Boone; a very special friend, Sandy Bull; also a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Griggs, November 26, 2003, and his grandparents, Gifford and Martha Boone Johnson, and Ellis and Gertrude Tellison Griggs. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 11, 2005, at Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church. Active pallbearers were, Earl Bonner, Hebert Fields, Murry Griggs, Jr., Rodney Griggs, Elroy Hebert, Joe Joseph, Irvin Holt, Randall Knapp, James Robinson, Adair Scott, Tracy Williams and Brandon Harris. Honorary pallbearers were, Wesley Johnson, Gifford Johnson, Jr., James Johnson, Paul Johnson, Curtis Johnson, the Rev. M.L. Boone, the Rev. Murry Griggs, the Rev.
