She was born on October 3, 1907, in Matagorda, Texas, to parents Weston and Annie Nolte Bailey. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bay City and volunteered for many local service organizations in Bay City. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William Herwin Broughton, and a son, Weldon Eugene Broughton. She is survived by: grandchildren, Weldon and Lisa Broughton, and Laura and Lee Ball; a daughter-in-law and close friend, Nan Broughton; and great-grandchildren, Tyler Ball, Heather Broughton, Hayley Ball, Larielle Badon and Hunter Ball; her caretaker, Willie Bonner; as well as her other caretakers. A private burial will be at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City and a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2005, at the First Baptist Church of Bay City, with Dr. Michael Zimmerman officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Fred Broughton, Frank Sliva, Paul Sliva, Andy Anderson, Courtney Grover, Bruce Glover and Bill Heiligbrodt. Services are under the direction of Bay City Funeral Home.
