He was born on December 7, 1926 in Lane City, Texas, the son of the late Horace Slade Goode Sr., and Winefred Charlotte Metcalf Goode. Bill worked in the oil field business all of his life, working for the same company, even though it changed owners and names several times. He started as a roughneck, at the age of 17 while in Wharton High School and retired after 49 years of service with the Richard’s Drilling Co. as a Senior Vice-President. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army having served in occupied Germany after WW II. He married Elwanda Stunz on October 2, 1957 in Houston. Bill was a 26 year resident of Bay City and was Methodist by faith. He loved family, fishing, hunting and being with his many good friends. Funeral services were held at 10 am Monday October 3, 2005 at the Wharton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Morgan officiating. Private family graveside services and interment followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Survivors include: his wife, Elwanda Stunz Goode of Bay City; son, William Robert Goode, Jr. of Wharton; brothers, Horace Goode Jr. of Wharton, Stanley Goode of Pasadena and Donald Goode of Missouri; grandchildren, Vanessa Goode of Sealy and Robert Goode of Columbus, Texas; three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Noessel and a brother, Joe Goode. Pallbearers were Stan Goode, Chuck Goode, David Goode, Jim Cochran, Coy Glenn, Charles Moritz and Felix Noessel. Memorials may be made to your charity of choice.
