He was born in Madison County, Texas, on November 15, 1918. Doug served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. His avowed goal was to remain healthy and active to take care of his wife as long as she lived, which he did until her death on March 21, 2005. Doug will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas Scott Wells and wife, Lois, of Sweeny and David Wayne Wells of Houston; daughters and son-in-law, Lola Cheryl Strother of Baytown, Kathy Terrell and husband, Travis, of LaPorte; nine grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Effie Lorene Wells; brother, Marcus David Wells; and sister, Mildred Baker. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 19, 2006, at First Baptist Church Sweeny with the Rev. Jerl Watkins officiating. Pallbearers will be Douglas Brett Wells, Larry Glen Wells, Andrew Foster Inscore, Anthony Wayne Inscore, Stephen Michael Wells and Travis Michael Terrell.
