She was born on April 14, 1922, to parents Edward and Mettie Tucker Knapp. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene Rooks, a brother, E.J. Knapp, a sister, Annie Lee Chanik, a granddaughter, Sheree Reid, a son-in-law Danny Hattenbach, and a great-granddaughter, Brianna Nichole Rooks. She is survived by: her sons, Charlie and Donna Rooks and Cecil and Lane Rooks; daughters, Learline and Irvin Henson, Merlin Bowen, Shirley Hattenbach, and Ellen and Charles Reid; sisters, Claudell Covey and Ardina Ryman; and grandchildren, Cheryl Bigelow, Chris Henson, Craig Henson, Donald Bowen, Ronald Bowen, Kim Rooks, Cory Rooks, Karen Rooks Gaston, Kenneth Reid, Donovan Reid, Judy Staff, Wesley McBee, Jason McBee and Lisa McBee; and 25 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 9 at the Church of the Nazarene, with the Rev. Warren Mutz officiating.
