He was born July 26, 1917, in Broad Ford, Pennsylvania, to the late Anthony J. and Bridget Grace Haley. Mr. Haley was a resident of Bay City since 1948 and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He was a veteran of WW II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force, as a first lieutenant, a life member of Philip H. Parker VFW Post No. 2438, a former member of the Bay City Rotary Club, a board member and chairman for several years of the Bay City Public Library and was a life member of the Baylor Alumni Association. He received a BS degree in 1948 and his MS degree in 1951 from Baylor University. There, he lettered three years in football and baseball. In 1949, Mr. Haley became the assistant coach at Bay City High School. He moved up to head coach and athletic director in 1953 and continued in that capacity for 19 years. During his tenure, the Black Cats won 119 games, lost 59 and tied 5. Under his leadership, the Black Cats were undefeated for 23 consecutive games. For all of his efforts, he was inducted into Bay City High School Black Cat Hall of Fame Nov. 9, 2001, and into Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor on July 28, 2004. He also taught American history at Bay City High School and government classes at Wharton Co. Junior College at night. On July 30, 1955, he married Evelyn McNabb Baker in Bay City, and they just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn McNabb Baker Haley of Bay City; son, Charles “Chuck” Baker and wife Fran of Bay City; sister, Eileen Haley Donovan of New Salem, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren, Bryan McNabb Baker and wife Rhonda of Conroe, Texas, and Gregory Wayne Baker of Matagorda, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Mitchell and Macey Baker, all of Conroe, and Taylor Baker of Beaumont, Mississippi, and niece, Catherine Lawhon Anderson and husband Carl, of Matagorda, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Haley, and his brothers, John Henry, Bob and Raymond Haley. Rosary was at 7 p.m. Thursday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, and the funeral mass was at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with the Rev. Casey Jarzombek officiating. Interment followed at Matagorda Cemetery. Lorraine served three terms as council member for the City of Port Lavaca, and was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi. Lorraine is survived by: her husband, Louis J. Mother was born in an East Texas oil town, Votaw, Texas, on July 23, 1914. Early on, her family moved to Daisetta, Texas, where her father worked for the remainder of his life. Her mother was Rachel Melinda Moorman, a wonderful, kind and gentle soul. Her father was Bob Moorman. She attended Hull-Daisetta school. She said she was lucky to be valedictorian of her senior class. Her cousin, Yvonne Maynard, attended school with her and both were extremely bright and competitive. Mother married Chris Vanya in 1934 and her son, Michael, is the sole issue of that marriage. Mother married in June, 1940, to Dr. Vernon H. Fricke and their daughter, Patricia, was born in January, 1942. She and Vernon lived together in Bay City until his death in June, 1965. They sent their children to the University of Texas. Mother later married Robert Coppock whom we adored. He took Mother all over the world. She was active in many civic and social organizations. In 1967, she became a realtor. She then passed the State Board of Insurance without ever having worked in insurance. Our mother was a unique, one-of-a-kind lady. She was extremely intelligent. She loved people and she let it show. We request that you remember her well, there will never be another. Mother was the eldest of five children. Her siblings were Robert Onnie Moorman, Athie Moorman White, Lonnie Moorman and William Watt Moorman. All are deceased. She is survived by: her daughter, Patricia Ewell of Webster; and son, Judge Michael Moorman Fricke and his wife, Anita, of Port Lavaca, Texas. She also is survived by: one grandson, Jason Ewell and wife, Ann, of Katy, Texas; and three granddaughters, Mary Fricke of Alvin, Texas, Lisa Berger and husband, James Berger, of New Albany, Ohio, and Laura Grundhoefer and husband James of San Antonio, Texas. She requested that all attend a Celebration of Life Reception at the Blessing Hotel immediately following the gravesite services. Mrs. Pavelka was born Jan. 8, 1913 in Guy, Tex. to Josef and Kristina Huff Zemanek. She died Sept. 10, 2005 at her home in Dallas. She is survived by her sisters, Martha Johnston, Sidney Bridewell, brother Joe Zemanek and wife Maurine, Victor’s wife, Lydia and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and brother, Victor Zemanek. Liddie was a Sokol Gymnast under her father’s instruction for 12 years. She graduated Salutatorian from Blessing High School and later from Shamburger Business College in Dallas. Liddie moved to Dallas at the age of 17. She worked for Louis B. Hosek as secretary and continued her gymnastics instruction. In 1933 she began working for General Electric Lamp Department retiring 30 years later as secretary/ assistant to the District Manager. In 1959, James and Liddie founded Prudential Air Conditioning, Inc., which operated for 12 years. James was President and Liddie was Secretary/Treasurer. They retired at the age of 57 and enjoyed retirement for 26 years. Liddie was a member of Dallas Krouzek Circle of Czech Women for 35 years, Ennis Sewing Circle for 30 years, and Professional Secretary Chapter of Dallas for 48 years. Liddie was an avid reader. She loved flowers and animals. She lived as a spirited, independent, and self–sufficient person. She will be greatly ! missed, but her love, kindness, and generosity to others will be remembered always. She was at peace her last days and was ready to be with the Lord when He called. She wished to thank everyone for the prayers, cards, phone calls, and visits during her illness. Special thanks to her caregivers: Nieces Linda Waldo and Cathy VandenEykel, brother Joe Zemanek, sister Sidney Bridewell, friend Paul Bilger, and Eunice Denenga. Bobby Jean grew up with six brothers and sisters on the main street of Palacios [Matagorda County, Texas] in a house filled with music. She worked as a teenager during WWII at Camp Hulen, followed by employment at the bank in Palacios. In 1949 she went to work for Alcoa where she met LeRoy. They married in 1959 and she became a homemaker and mother of two daughters. Her life was filled with their many travels, good friends, family, music at the First Baptist Church and a strong love for her grandchildren. Those who knew her will always remember a smile on her face. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 11, 2005, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Puleo Jan. 1, 1921 - Aug. 22, 2005 Salvatore T. Puleo, age 84, of Price Frederick, Maryland, died Monday, August 22, 2005, at the University Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He is the loving father of Dianne Bass, Richard Puleo, Deborah Cabe, Frederick Puleo, Michael Puleo and adopted son, Robert Puleo. He is also survived by: his longtime companion, Betty Hodges; two brothers, Vincent and John Puleo; three sisters, Grace Waters, Anna Brucha and Polly Trescatti; ten grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, August 27, 2005, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 105 Vianney Lane, Prince Frederick, Maryland, with the Reverend Peter Daly officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Formerly of Bowie, Maryland, Mr. Puleo moved to Calvert County in 1984. He was an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Prince Frederick and worked in many of the church ministries. He also was active in the Cursillo movement. Mr. Puleo was a Certified Life Underwriter with Life of Virginia, retired, went to work for the WSSC and retired. He served in the U.S. Navy 1941-1947, serving in the Asian Pacific Theater on seven different vessels and he represented his ships as a pugilist. His hobbies included boxing, collecting sharks teeth from local site in Calvert County, donating some specimens to local museums, gardening, cooking, football, tall ships and playing cards. He was a member of the V.F.W., Knights of Columbus, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
