He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Aransas Pass and served on its finance committee. He was a founding member and past president of the Aransas Shrimp Co-op. He was always active in the shrimp industry in Aransas Pass and helped to make the community known as “the Shrimp Capital of the World.” He is survived by: his loving wife of 50 years, Frances Yeamans of Aransas Pass; his two daughters, Alicia (Hector) Yeamans-Vasquez of Houston, and Eileen (Mohammad) Tavassoli of Avon, Indiana; his two brothers, Douglas (Shirley) Yeamans of Aransas Pass, and Asa (Verna) Yeamans of Rockport; his sister, Phyllis Culver of Matagorda; five grandchildren, Candice Gomez, Lela, Dimitri, Nicholas and Aleksei Tavassoli; and great-grandchildren, Madison and Brendon. He was born December 22, 1923, in Spring, Texas, to the late Willie B. and James Nannie Collins McGill. Mack was a resident of Bay City since 1968, a member of the Methodist Church, and a member of the Masonic AF&AM Lodge No. 40 in Victoria, Texas. He retired from the Union Pacific Railroad after 42 years of service. Mack’s enthusiasm for life was obvious and he enjoyed good food, music, dancing, gardening, barbeque and especially deer hunting, which he did for many years, and was a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. For the last two years, Mack endured declining health, refusing to submit, choosing rather to focus on his family, friends and life. His unfailing humor and spirit will be remembered by all of those fortunate to know him. The family wishes to thank everyone who participated in Mack’s care. It has been a large number of people, and you’ve all been wonderful. Daddy grew fond of so many of you. Please remember Daddy with a smile and know that he is in a better place, telling stories and planning jokes and celebrating his new life. Alfred Jones presiding. Griggs was born in Bay City, Texas, July 29, 1947, to Melvin Griggs and Doris Morgan Griggs, and passed away November 25, 2005, in Bay City, Texas. He was a 1965 graduate of A.G. Hilliard High School. Afterwards, he studied many disciplines, including masonry, welding and broadcasting, to name a few. In June 1982, he answered the call to his life's work to preach the gospel, and assumed the honorable role as “Rev. Griggs.” His pastoral career span almost 20 years, after being elected on December 11, 1985, to become the shepherd of the Mother Zion Baptist Church Family. In May 1990, Pastor Griggs received his Bachelor of Theology degree, made possible by the Mother Zion Church Family. After devoted study in the field of theology, he received his Doctorate of Divinity degree. Pastor Griggs labored and served the Mother Zion Baptist Church faithfully for two decades. Under his leadership, several technological and structural advances were made to the church. He was a revered pastor, preacher, teacher, mentor, counselor and friend. He was an active member of the National Baptist Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress, and served as chairman of the Foreign Mission Board of the Independent Missionary Baptist General Association of Texas. Pastor Griggs preached his last sermon Sunday, November 20, 2005, from Psalm 103: 1, 2, with the sermon titled, “Benefits.” His favorite Bible verse was from Psalm 121:1,2 saying, “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made heaven and earth.” Survivors include: his wife, Seretha Brown Griggs of Bay City; three daughters, Doris Crenshaw, Kara Holloway and Seretha Jane Griggs, all of Bay City; and two sons, Randolph Brown of Bay City, and Lorinzo Brown (and Onjaleke) of Dallas. Also: his mother, Doris Wiley of Bay City; three aunts, Carrie Powell, Jewel Hudson and Opal Herron; and one uncle, Leon Allen. Patricia was a shoe specialist and was the manager of the shoe department of the Target store in Morgantown. She attended the Bula Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she is survived by: her husband, Augustine Alameda; four sons, Craig Dintaman and Cory Dintaman, both of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, Augustine Alameda Jr. and Paul Angel Alameda, both of Bay City [Matagorda County, Texas], Texas, and one daughter, Crystal M. Alameda of Austin, Texas; one brother, Donald G.
