Day and husband, Richard L. He also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Martin is preceded in death by: his father, Martin Bryan Robertson, Sr.; mother, the Rev. Lorena Robertson; sisters, Florence N. Fendley and the Rev. Bernice Meeks; and grandparents. Visitation was from 2 until 8 p.m. Monday, January 23, 2006, at Heights Funeral Home. Funeral services were held in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2006. Interment was to follow at Woodlawn Garden of Memories. Services by the Rev. He was born September 30, 1931, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Sterling Bervard and Freida Martha Kettler Oliver. Mr. Oliver was a resident of Kingwood for the past four years and a former longtime resident of Bay City. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bay City, and a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from Phillips Petroleum Co. in 1991 with some 20 years of service. Survivors include: his wife of 54 years, Sharon Henry Oliver of Kingwood, Texas; two daughters and sons-in-law, Pamela and Benjamin Smith of Friendswood, Texas, and Cecille and Marty Stitt of Kingwood, Texas; son, Dale Sterling Oliver of Beaumont; seven grandchildren, Dustin and Derek Smith, Claire, Connor and Chandler Stitt, and Sterling and William Oliver; three nieces, Gayle Oliver Wiggins and Linda Oliver Green, both of Bay City, and Valerie Hurst Jernigan of Longview; three nephews, Jimmy Oliver of Lake Jackson, Ab Hurst of Longview, and Clayton Hurst of Kingwood, Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Curtis and Deenie Oliver. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2006, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Clayton Hurst and the Rev. Pauline Harvey officiating. Military services will be rendered by the Honor Guard of Philip H. Parker Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2438. Mr. Thames was born June 23, 1913, to John William and Willie C. Thames in Bastrop County and died April 7, 1992, at Matagorda General Hospital. Mr. Thames and his family came to Matagorda County around 1927, and he has been a lifetime resident here. He served in the Army Air Force, 488th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force, during World War II. In Bay City, he worked as a carpenter, farmer and miller. He worked for the Bay City Box Factory and the I. N. Mills Lumber Co., which he purchased after Mr. Mills' death. After his health forced him out of the lumber business, he opened Thames Saw Shop, where many remember him for sharpening their saws. He was a life member of the veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2438 and a member of the American Legion Post 11 for 46 years. He was a devoted husband and a loving father. Survivors include his daughter, Susie Marie Chamrad; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dale and Beverly Thames and Kenneth Thames; a granddaughter, Becky Austin; two stepgrandsons, Jason and Jeffrey Davis; and a brother, George Thames. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Lucille, who died Dec. 14, 1991, and by his mother and father. His family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions be made in his name to the Student Education Fund, Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438, Bay City, Texas, or a charitable cause of your choice.
