    3. Camp Hulen was a military base. The CCC Company 1805 may have been stationed there for a short while. I have found nothing that stated that they were ever there. The different CCC companies moved from place to place, project to project all over the state. She was born on February 8, 1921, in Hungerford, Texas, the daughter of the late William Bucek and Liddie Wasek Bucek. Mrs. Kocian was a longtime resident of Hungerford until moving to Bay City in 1979 to live with her sister, Georgie. She married William A. (Willie) Kocian on April 4, 1946, in Wharton, and he preceded her in death on July 17, 1975. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Wilton J. Bucek and Leonard J. Bucek. Mrs. Kocian was protestant by faith. She was a homemaker all of her life and a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 148 in El Maton. She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband and she had a deep appreciation for her pets. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2006, at the chapel of the Wharton Funeral Home, with Mr. Paul Jones officiating. Burial followed in the Wharton City Cemetery. She was born in Galveston, Texas, on November 7, 1933, to parents David Beall and Albrae Sims Nance. She and her husband owned and operated the Spoonemore’s Office Supply in Bay City for many years. She was a very dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Bay City, where she served as a deaconess and an elder and also served as a Sunday School teacher, led Bible studies and sang in the church choir. She also was active in Women of Faith. After retiring and moving to Canyon Lake, she became a member of The Cradle of Texas — Emmaus Community, and The Red Hat Society of Canyon Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents and her oldest daughter, Patricia Kay Spoonemore. She is survived by: her husband of 53 years, James David Spoonemore; son and his wife, David and Juliet Spoonemore; daughter and her husband, Sandra and Michael Strickland; a grandson and his wife, Hugh and Jamie Strickland; and two great-granddaughters, Malyn and Alexa. A visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, January 29, at the First Christian Church in Bay City, with the Rev. James Meurer officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Ladell Sump, Tom Quirk, Richard Ward, Johnny Ryman, Bennie Stevens, C.V. McKelvy, Mike Post and Tommy Lane will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Arden Aldridge, Don Wertz, Forrest Burkhart, Scott Dickerson, Carter Franklin, Ed Miller, Jerry Tallas, Albert Ainsworth and the BCHS Class of 1951. She was born September 13, 1938, in Sparingburg, Texas, to Ben Youing Broom and Mamie Lou Dillin Broom. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. Margaret leaves wonderful memories with her family. She is survived by: her children, Nikki Barker and Penny Cachia, both of Bay City, Texas; brothers, Kenneth Broom and wife Xan of Arlington, Texas, and Curtis Broom and wife June of Jacksboro, Texas; sister, Joyce Kachnovich of Lufkin, Texas; grandchildren, David Barker of League City, Texas, Daniel Barker of Waco, Texas, and Madison Traniello of Bay City, Texas; one aunt, Ethelene Mader of Poolville, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, B.Y. and Mamie Broom of Graford, Texas. Memorial services for Margaret will be held at 2 p.m. January 28, 2006, at the Poolville First Baptist Church at Poolville, Texas.
