Mr. White was born in Bay City, Texas, April 27, 1930, to Clinton Phillip and Vivian Ruth White. He attended schools in Boling Independent School District, graduating from Boling High School in 1948. At Boling High School he lettered in multiple sports and won a scholarship to play football at Wharton County Junior College. After graduating from high school, he attended Wharton County Junior College, Sam Houston State University and the University of Houston. He was also a graduate of management school at Louisiana State University. In 1950, Clinton joined the United States Air Force. Music was one of the many passions of Clinton’s life. He ultimately attended Sam Houston State University on a music scholarship, playing trumpet in the dance band, the Starlighters. During the early 50s he led Clinton White’s Dance Band that entertained locally. He was also a well noted avid collector. In 1951, Clinton married Wanda Head of Bay City, Texas. They lived and raised their family in Newgulf, Texas. He worked for 40 years as a dedicated manager of public and government relations for Texagulf Sulphur Company. Clinton was a member of St. John’s Methodist Church in Newgulf, Texas. Clinton White accepted his responsibility to his community in many ways. He was on the board of the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts of America, Wharton County Junior College Foundation Board and Wharton County Museum. He was past president of the Texas Public Relations Association and the Wharton County Junior College Foundation Board. He was a proud member of “Frankie’s Boys,” the Friday Club, and a founding member of Ducks Unlimited. Clinton was also a member of the Wharton County Historical Commission and the American Legion. He was an accomplished fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman. Clinton was active in Texas politics and loved his home state. He was appointed by Governor George Bush as commissioner of the Texas Historical Commission, where he served a six-year term. His many friends in Austin will surely be toasting him this week. Clinton White was also an impetus and guiding light for the reconstruction and preservation of the Wharton County Courthouse. Clinton and Wanda are the proud parents of three daughters, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather to all of his family. He is survived by: his wife, Wanda; daughters and spouses, Cynthia and Frank Sinatra, Karen and Junior Herzik and Sharon and Bill Baker; grandchildren, Tammy and Scott Chambers, Jessica McMurrey, Tara Parker, Tiffani Harris, Brent Herzik, Marci and Chase Macek, Brittany Brink, Victoria Brink and MacKenzie Baker; and by his great-grandchildren, Kirby and Cale Chambers and Chase Macek, Jr. He was affectionately known as “Paw Paw.” He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas W. White, and infant son, Phillip Russell White. Visitation will be held at Wharton Funeral Home from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 1, 2006. Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 1717 Pioneer, in Wharton, Texas at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2006, with Mickey Reynolds and the Rev. Paul Thomasson officiating. She was the eighth of 13 children. When Ila was five years old, her father moved their entire family from Lee County to Matagorda County by train. Three generations and all of the families possessions and livestock made the journey. Ila spent her most of her life in and near Bay City. The Williams family operated a farm near Bay City. An adjacent farm was operated by the Holloway family. Four marriages resulted between these neighbors; three Holloway brothers and a sister married two Williams sisters, a brother and a cousin. Ila married John Henry Holloway on Oct. 27, 1934, in Bay City, Texas, with her sister, Edna, attending. Four children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren resulted from this union. John passed away on May 9, 1973. Ila is survived: by her daughter, JoAnn Holloway Highfield of Kerrville; her granddaughter, Jennifer Highfield and husband Jimmy Furr and great-grandson, J.W. of Ingram; grandson, Travis Highfield and wife Debbie of Houston; and great-grandchildren, Hannah and Daniel of Minnesota. Daughter, Jean Holloway Witt and husband Gerald of Camp Verde, Texas. Her grandson, David Witt, wife Jeanna and great-grandsons, Jake and Josh of Denton, Texas; granddaughter, Marla Witt McCarty, husband Brian and great-grandchildren Kyle, Katie and Claire of Kerrville. Daughter, Sue Holloway of Center Point, Texas. Her granddaughter, Melissa Fisbeck Pearson, husband Tony and great-granddaughters, Emily and Savannah of San Antonio; grandson, John Mitchell Fisbeck, wife Becky and great-grandchildren Nate and Shelby of The Woodlands, Texas. Son, John Henry Holloway, Jr. and wife Billie of Spring Branch, Texas. Grandsons, Michael Holloway; Kenneth Holloway of Houston; Dusty Brimberry of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Jason Brimberry and wife Courtney and great-granddaughters Zoe and Mia of Grand Prairie, Texas. Ila moved to Kerrville, Texas, to be near her daughters. She was a proud member of the Center Point United Methodist Church. Her favorite pastimes included handwork like quilting and embroidery. She lived independently until the age of 92. Ila Holloway passed away peacefully on Feb. 20, 2006, in Kerrville, Texas, surrounded by her family. Her wisdom and sense of humor will be greatly missed. Ila is survived by: one brother, F.J. Williams and wife LaVerne of Bay City. She is preceded in death by her husband, six sisters and five brothers. Her funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City, Texas, with the Pastor Mack McKinney officiating. He was born November 30, 1934, in Bay City, Texas, to the late Eddie Joe Parma and Huberta Bowie Peterson. Mr. Parma was a member of the Cedar Lane Baptist Church and a resident of Lake Jackson since 1956. In 1986, he retired from Dow Chemical as a foreman, with 30 years of service. He served in the U.S. Air Force from February 12, 1952, to February 11, 1956. On June 12, 1954, he married Thelma Jean Sirmon in Cedar Lane, Texas. Mr. Parma enjoyed watching his grandson play baseball, as well as golfing, taking care of his cattle and RVing with Thelma. Survivors include: his wife of almost 52 years, Thelma “Jeanie” Sirmon Parma of Lake Jackson; daughter and son-in-law, Patti and Cliff Phillips of Lake Jackson; grandson, Clay Phillips of Lake Jackson; sister, Ada Stange of Victoria, Texas; mother-in-law, Thelma Sirmon of Bay City; his best friend and golfing buddy, Jack Reimer; and his beloved dog, “Dolly.” In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hubert and Ada Bowie, who raised him, and by his father-in-law, Earl Sirmon. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Jackson, Texas, with the Rev. Scott McKay officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, at Roselawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Van Vleck, Texas, with the Rev. William Hodge officiating. Pallbearers will be Hollie Urban, Clyde Pray, John Ashcraft, L.Z. Bryan, Leon Morris and Ron Anderson. Honorary pallbearers include Clyde Ashcraft, W.F. “Bill” Mays, Jack Reimer, Leslie Dacke and Henry Gretschel. Visitation will start at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lakewood Chapel and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday. Albert was born on August 8, 1927, in Bay City, Texas. He was the third of seven children born to the late Richard Hubert and Carrie Ethel Lowe Legg. He grew up in Bay City and graduated from Bay City High School in 1945. Shortly after, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and received his Honorable Discharge July, 1947. He was baptized at the age of seven in the First Baptist Church of Bay City, where he maintained his membership. He was employed by Phillips Petrochemical Refinery in Sweeny, Texas for 37 years, retiring on January 1, 1990. His most passionate hobby was his carpentry work, which earned him side jobs. Albert was very proud of his grandchildren, and loved them all dearly. He was much loved as a husband, father and grandfather, and will be dearly missed by all. Survivors include: his beloved wife of 44 years, Barbara Turner Legg; daughters and son-in-law, Donna Legg Wooten of Venus, Texas, and Melissa and Mark Rehak of Clear Lake, Texas; son, Brian Mark Legg of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Neva Myers Kelch of Amarillo, Texas, Norma McDonald and husband Gene, Margie Quinn and husband Rex, and Billie Suffling, all of Bay City, Texas; brother, Luster Legg of Mexia, Texas; nine grandchildren, Crystal Green and Terry Hodge of Venus, Texas, Sean, Mark, Tyler and Nicole Legg of Houston, and Brentley, Tristan and Shaela Rehak of Clear Lake, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Marshall and Isiah of Venus, Texas; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
