He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict; retired from Alcoa Aluminum Co. in 1982; was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church; a life long resident of Palacios; a member of Alcoa 25 Year Club; and Life Member and Chaplain of the Palacios VFW Post 2467. Kay was born in Houston, along with her twin sister "May", on August 29, 1927 to J.W. and Lura Arnold Sartwelle. She married Hugh Franklin Buffaloe on Valentines Day in 1950. Both her parents and husband preceded her in death as well as her brothers J.D. and Henry Sartwelle and in-laws Frank and Mary E. Buffaloe. She was born February 20, 1928 in Houston to Albert Baxter Brown and Manie Pearl Hardy Brown and moved with her family to Cedar Lane in 1939 where she resided the remainder of her life. She was a long time member of Cedar Lane Baptist Church and was married for 60 years. After all of her children started school, Helen attended Wharton County Jr. College and graduated as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. She loved all aspects of nursing, but her favorite areas were labor, delivery and geriatrics. Helen worked for many years at Matagorda General Hospital, Bay Villa Nursing Home and Sweeny House. She will always be remembered by her children and grandchildren as a loving mother and grandmother, who touched each of our lives with her unconditional love, charming wit, and her never ending devotion to Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Opal Martin. The family members will receive friends in the Schaetter Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006. A Requiem Holy Eucharist will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on May 17, 2006, Fredericksburg, Texas. Interment follows at the St.Barnabas Columbarium. Mrs. McWilliams was born May 24, 1914 in Omaha, Nebraska, the only daughter of August H. Claudius, an immigrant from Germany and Constance Moriarty Claudius an immigrant from Ireland. She married Seminarian Milton McWilliams of Ardmore, Oklahoma on July 17, 1948, in St. John's Episcopal Church, Omaha, Nebraska. They celebrated their fifty seventh anniversary on July 17, 2005 in the Rehab Unit of Sid Peterson Hospital, Kerrville, Texas. Mrs. McWilliams graduated from Omaha North High School and worked for a number of years in the insurance industry. Then she entered and graduated in 1946 from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa academic fraternity and Zeta Tau Alpha social sorority. She was a Team Leader in Student Union activities. Gretchen also was a student at Columbia University, New York City. She graduated with a Master's Degree in Christian Education from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, Berkeley, CA. in 1948. Gretchen became Christian Education Director of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Oakland, CA, the largest Parish in the Diocese of California. In 1951, she became Chaplain of Episcopal Students at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK. In the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma she was a Team Member of the initial Renewal Ministries such as Parish Life Conferences. She also was a Counselor for Episcopal Summer Youth Camps in the Diocese of Oklahoma. Moving to the Episcopal Diocese of Texas in 1958 in Houston, she was involved in such renewal ministries as Cursillios, Marriage Encounter Weekends, Beginning Experience Weekends, and other conferences for adults. She also was a committed member of St. Francis Episcopal Church Houston and starting in 1962 of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Bay City. In both Houston and Bay City she assisted in the founding of hospital auxiliaries at Spring Branch Hospital, and Matagorda County Hospital respectively. In 1986 Gretchen moved to Fredericksburg, Texas. In addition to her parents, Gretchen was preceded in death by their son, David Milton McWilliams, a United States Navy Nuclear Plant Operator on the Cruiser Long Beach; by three brothers and two sisters-in-law. She is survived by: her husband, the Reverend Milton McWilliams, an Episcopal Church Priest; a daughter and son-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Ortiz, Houston, Texas; two grand children and their spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Wayne Boessling, Houston, Texas and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ward, New Braunfels, Texas; a grand God-daughter and her spouse, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Higby, Tuscon, Arizona; three great grand children; a sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Nancy Carlock Rogers and Mr. David Carlock, both of Dallas, Texas, who devotedly affirmed the Family for many years and in particular the past several months. She was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Holy Cross Ladies Altar Society, Catholic Daughters of America, Bay City High School Band Booster Club, and Bay City Women's Bowling Assn. Debbie's family and friends will remember her as a very generous and giving person, her integrity and wit, enthusiasm for life, and her strong belief in faith. Debbie is survived by: her husband of 25 years, Daniel Layton Clanton; son, Daniel Paul; mother, Julia Tastet; sisters, Jeanette Tassin, Natalie Giovingo, and Stephanie Rester; brothers, Earl "Pie" Tastet, Gary Tastet, Shelly Tastet, and the late Leroy Tastet and Ferris Tastet. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Anthony Catholic Church on May 2, 2006 with interment at St. Charles Cemetery in Luling, Louisiana. He was born on July 7, 1916 in Rosenberg, Texas the son of the late Herman Koch and Minnie Hacker Koch. Mr. Koch was a resident of Lane City for the past 78 years and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wharton. He married Neva Eunice Wojhan on May 29, 1942 in Houston and she preceded him in death on August 28, 1998. He was also preceded in death by four sisters, and a daughter-in-law. He worked as a pipefitter at Dow Chemical until his retirement in 1982. He also worked as a farmer, an oil field worker and a carpenter. Friends may call for visitation from 6 until 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wharton with the Pastor Barry Sharp officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton. Loretta was born in Hurricane Creek, Florida on January 30, 1940 and later moved with her husband to Van Vleck. In May of 1977 she graduated from the University of Houston in Victoria with a degree in Elementary Education. In September of 1977, Loretta began her teaching career at Van Vleck ISD and remained there until her retirement in May 1998. She coached the girls Junior Varsity Basketball team in 1980. She was an exceptional and dedicated science teacher. She never missed an opportunity to participate in workshops offered in our area to help children that loved science as much as she did. The Matagorda County Soil and Conservation District awarded Loretta Teacher of the Year in 1996. That same year the Area 3 Soil Conservation Districts awarded her the runner-up Teacher of the Year. David Durham, former principal of E. Rudd Intermediate and former superintendent of Van Vleck ISD, had this to say about Loretta, "While you have found a home, you have evolved into a shining star for Van Vleck Intermediate School. And, the best is yet to come!" Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Bay City with the Rev. Chester Sassman and Billy Christmas officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Van Vleck. Pallbearers were Lance O'Neill, Michael Grisham, John Ashcraft, Kenneth Vaughan, Bryan Vaughan and Marvin Christmas.
