Posted on: Llano County Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Llano/320 Surname: Thorp, Stidham, Cowan, Kemp ------------------------- Llano County queries...was interested in several things among which was the location of the Thorp family Bible. In a posted response to a thread in Lincoln Co TN reference is made that thirdhand information places it in possession of the L.V. Nobles family of Bluffton TX. Further, the David Calvin Cowan family Bible was last known to be in the possession of the Thorp family... Information derived from Menard County, Texas Biographies indicated George Jones Thorp (s/o Joseph Lewis and Elly Cowan-Thorp)married first Westley Jane A. Thompson b. 18 Aug 1869, 2nd m. Margaret Matilda "Tillie" Tow which you probably already know. Brothers to George J. Thorp were: David Cowan Thorp b. Aug 5, 1833; James Luther Thorp b. April 24, 1836; and Gideon Cowan Thorp b. Dec 13, 1844. His sister was Margaret Ruth b. August 26, 1842. Further, Joseph Lewis Thorp was the son of James M. Thorp b. April 15, 1877 and his father was Theotho Thorp, born abt 1701 in Virginia. I come through the line w/ son of David Cowan Thorp being my great-grandfather. His name was Simeon "Sim" David Thorp and he and my great-grandmother, Elvira Gertrude Stidham Thorp lived and died in Tribune Kansas, after their marriage in Sherwood Texas on December 29, 1901 at the Sherwood Baptist Church. We (my siblings and I) are just beginning this process and are overwhelmed with all the "branches" there seem to be, but would be thrilled to share information along the way and hope that others would continue to share w/ us. We plan to work hard on this. We are all spread out from Virginia to California, but that might be good as access to records might be better! My brother still sends money (a teeny-tiny amount) for cemetery fund maintenance(?) yearly, to Big Lake, Reagan County TX. We would love to figure out who/what this is for! Any help with this? Thanks so much for any help you or others can give.
