I am the publisher of "Texas Post Offices By County" (see New Handbook of Texas Online references). I have not been able to find the name origins of three Llano County post offices. I have checked county histories, cemetery and census records, various microfilm sources, etc. - to no avail. Just wanted to check to see if anyone would happen to know "off the cuff" (**NO RESEARCH REQUESTED**) where any of these listed below might have gotten their names from. They are "toughies" for sure, but I was hoping that perhaps someone would have an "inkling" on at least one. They are: Esbon (1901-1915) - 1st postmaster was Robert J. Harlow (located in the far west part of the county, halfway between Castell and Field Creek; it sounds like it might be a combined name - the area was known as Simpson's Bend for the Simpson brothers - by any chance were there five Simpson brothers with first names of these letters?[really grasping here, aren't I?]) Graceland (1881) - 1st PM was G. N. Aapkens (located at located on the Llano River SW of Buchanan Dam; I have a feeling that Elvis had nothing to do with this!!) Republic (1880-1909) - 1st PM was John L. Kirkpatrick (located @6 miles SE of Valley Spring; perhaps Kirkpatrick had a store by that name? - again, just guessing wildly) Help on ANY one or more would be most welcome. Thanks very much. .........John J. Germann
