Hi, Below are my ancestors gravesites per an on-line list. I wonder if there is a kind soul who could/would photograph these gravestones and maybe the front of the cemetery for me? I'm putting together a little book for my parents for Christmas and these are my mom's granddad and greatgrandmom. (I wouldn't mind any other Meers or Herefords from that cemetery, but this group I really need!). Thanks for any help! http://www.tsl.state.tx.us/lobby/rc/index.html The Index to Republic Claims on Microfilm About the Republic Claims Project The Republic Claims series includes claims for payment, reimbursement, or restitution submitted by citizens to the Republic of Texas government from 1835 through 1846. It also includes files relating to Republic pensions and claims against the Republic submitted as public debt claims after 1846. The records include supporting documents such as vouchers, financial accounts, military records, receipts, notes, or letters. These historic records from the Republic Era have been microfilmed to preserve the highest image quality, and the entire series has been meticulously indexed by staff in the Archives and Information Services Division. The Republic Claims series consists of four groups of payments made for services rendered during the period 1835-1846. These groups are the Audited Claims, Republic Pensions, Public Debt Claims, and Unpaid Claims. Because the actual Republic Claims are extremely fragile, access to the records is restricted to high-quality microfilmed copies of the files. This Online Index provides an alphabetical list of indexed names with corresponding microfilm Reel and Frame numbers where the indexed name appears in one or more Claims files. The microfilm reels are available through Interlibrary Loan and, to view in person, at the Genealogy Collection of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Microfilming and indexing for the Republic Claims project were made possible by two generous grants from the Summerlee Foundation. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- Jo Autrey jmautrey@email.msn.com

Hi Llano List- Does anyone know if there is a book of Llano County, TX marriages abstracted from the courthouse? I have not seen anything on the internet, nor does the Midland or Odessa, TX libraries have such a book. I am trying to locate marriage dates and documentation for some of my Alexander relatives who were in Llano Co. by 1885 and many of them have stayed in the area since that time. Please let me know if such a book exists? Thanks, Kay kaynlinn@aol.com

I need some help on a couple of things. First is there some place in Llano County that would have an index of the cemeteries in the county. I am trying to find Richard Neely FOREHAND died in 1914 I Llano County. Also I am looking for A.D. & Sarah MITCHELL. I am not sure about them. They were suppose to have came to Texas in early 1900s and then disappeared. Thought they might have came there as Sarah & Richard were brother & sister. Any help would be greatly appreciated. To All Whom It May Concern: The purpose of this message is to inform all genealogists & researchers who subscribe to TEXAS Rootsweb Lists, of a very important web site that now has a searchable database of over 1,650 U.S. Regular Army soldiers who once served at the short-lived Buffalo Barracks, between 1835 and 1846. Many of these soldiers had fought in the Indian Wars in Florida and also the War with Mexican, and then the Civil War. It is without doubt that some of the descendants of these men are most likely in every county of the great state of Texas. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT: The 1840 Census of Buffalo, NY lists Colonel James M. Bankhead, of Virginia, and a total 'quantity' of 671 individuals, ranging in age from 1 to 60, as being under his command and/or responsibility. Unfortunately, the census does not list each of these barracks residents by name....only by 'quantity.' (ie. 426 males 20-30 yrs, or 34 females 20-30 yrs) HOWEVER, The Buffalo Barracks Historical Web Site has turned most of the 'quantities' into actual names. The list of these officers and soldiers (and some of their wifes and dependants...see the Barracks Notebook section) are available, free of any charge. The URL for this outstanding web site is: [ http://www.buffalonet.org/army ] There, you will discover the "Descriptive & Historical Register Data of Enlisted Soldiers in the U.S. Army," for those who served at this federal military post on the Niagara Frontier. Also available is a wealth of rare and interesting information pertaining to the Buffalo Barracks and it's unique historic value. I encourage everyone to take the time to visit this site. Perhaps you have an ancestor who once served there? Enjoy your visit, Cliff Williams 104740.372@compuserve.com buffalobarracks@hotbot.com

I would like to hear from anyone who is researching the Jackson J. Herridge family. I descend from William Christmas Herridge....I would like to prove whether or not Wm and Jackson were related. Can someone tell me if his mother was a Coggin and related to the mother of Wm Christmas Herridge. Was Jackson's father Benjamin or possibly Elijah Herridge of Georgia? Peggy Herridge Wilson
I have started a new forum for those of us who have ancestors in Texas. Please come and check it out. For those who have received this before I apologize. This is at the beginning stages so, bear with me while I get this site up and running at full speed. I hope to have some scheduled chats and hopefully some guest speakers. I encourage you to visit often. If you have links or information that may help others, please post those under resources. Please email me with any questions or comments. Here's the address WWW.delphi.com/texasgen You should have no trouble getting in with that address. Delphi will want you to sign up with them before you can post to the message board. All they require is your name, email address and then to make up a member name and password. Thanks, Kristy

OK, so I'm new at this. For those of you that are interested in the forum I've created send me an email and I will send you a personal Invite. I'm online most of the day so you should get your invite pretty fast. Thanks Kristy
I'm sorry I sent that query out twice. I was distracted by children. Please forgive me Kristy
I've reached a dead end and need some help. This is what I have on my earliest ancestors. Richard Oliver CHEW Son: Benjamin F. CHEW b; abt 1801 in Virginia First wife: Caroline EASTLAND b; ? in Pennsylvania her parents are William Mosby EASTLAND and Evangaline YALLOWBY. He was the first Officer to draw a black bean in the ill-fated Meir Expedition in Mexico. I can find all kinds of historic records of the expedition but nothing on where he lived or any of his family. I know that Benjamin is in the 1850 census of Texas but he shows up with a second wife (Elizabeth Unknown), his four children by Caroline and two by Elizabeth. What happened to Caroline? Did she even make it to Texas? I know her father was in Texas but where? The family story goes that three brothers came to America from Chewton, England. They were Richard, Benjamin and George. Is Richard Oliver CHEW one of the brothers? How would I go about finding that out? I would really appreciate any advice on these questions or better yet a connection to the family. I have recieved a lot of emails in the past pointing me to large CHEW databases. I have not found a connection yet. Thanks, Kristy
I am looking for any family information on William Mosby EASTLAND and his wife Evangaline YALLOWBY. William EASTLAND was the first officer to draw a black bean in the ill-fated MEIR EXPEDITION. They had one child in Pennsylvania named Caroline. Caroline married Benjamin F. CHEW and they had 3 children together. In the 1850 Texas Census, Benjamin had remarried and had several more children. I have no idea what happened to Caroline EASTLAND. I can only assume that she died but I don't know if she died before arriving in Texas. I know the CHEW's went back and forth between Virginia and Pennsylvania before moving to TEXAS. I can find all kinds of information about the MEIR EXPEDITION but nothing on the EASTLAND family at all. I would be grateful for any information or advice. Kristy
