    1. [TXLLANO] Trial in Llano around 1888/9
    2. Roger Cornett
    3. Can anyone help me with the following. In a letter I have my grandfather(Jesse Allen Cornett) talks about his father (William Henry Cornett) setting on a jury for a murder that happened during a feud. This feud was in San Saba County and trial moved to Llano on change of venue. The man on trial was convicted and sentenced to time in prison. His kin swore vengeance on judge and jury according to the letter. This would have taken place around 1898/9. Are there any news papers from that time period or court house records that old. I know so many of the older court houses have burned or had problems in their past and many records have been destroyed. Any assistance on this would be appreciated. 3. Here is what I have as cemeteries in Llano Co., and how to get to them. It may not be complete (or accurate). They are from the cemetery book, by Evelyn Wade and Patsy Smith. I am presuming, (since I don't know personally about them) All these directions are starting from Llano. I am taking a chance that the ladies who did the cemetery book will not prosecute me for copyright violation, for listing these cemeteries. But, I cannot post their extractions. The two that are on the page were done personally by the ladies that submitted them to me and gave their permission to be used. Nicole's list has some names that aren't in the book. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ FLATROCK CEMETERY - Hwy 29 E. to RR 2241, then turn left on Hwy 29. 3. Fellow List Members, I have a couple of things I need to bring up just for a way of a reminder. First, the list is not set up to handle formatted text, only plain text. This would include bold, italics, different font sizes, or different font styles. Also, you cannot send attachments to the list. This would include photos and reports from your genealogy software. I know that it would be handy to be able to send photos or the reports, but it is also a guard against viruses (I know from experience at work how much of a pain that can be). This set up arrangement is not my doings, but it is the way ALL Rootsweb lists are set up. Thanks, Gaylon L Powell List Administrator TXBASTRO-L@ROOTSWEB.COM TXLAMPAS-L@ROOTSWEB.COM TXLLANO-L@ROOTSWEB.COM TXMASON-L@ROOTSWEB.COM TXSSABA-L@ROOTSWEB.COM ******************************* Gaylon L Powell Austin Texas gaylon@flash.net *******************************

    1. [TXLLANO] Wilson Rogers (1843-1899) from Mississippi to Texas
    2. Nicole Wiebe
    3. I just know there has to be someone out there that knows of my gggrandfather. Wilson Rogers b. January 22, 1843 in Mississippi and died May 26, 1899 in Coryell Co., Texas. Both of Wilson's parents were born in Mississippi. Didn't families usually migrate together? I do find a James C. Rogers on the 1880 Coryell County census, his age is 30 so he was born about 1850 and his wife's name is Isabella(27) and their children are Willard W.(9),Mary M.(6), Zana I.(4) and Robert H. (2). Does anyone know of this family? James C. was born in Mississippi and so were his parents, just coincidence? Could this be Wilson's younger brother? What does that W in his son's name stand for? I can first account for Wilson in texas in the 1860's but he could have been here before this time. His first child was born in 1867 and he married Sarah Elizabeth Williamson before this birth in Coryell County, so maybe the mid 1860's. Wilson's children: Daniel Martin Stephen Edgar Ernest William Thomas Marion Allen George Washington Wilson Lela? Please help me!

    3. Posted on: Llano County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Llano/341 Surname: BLEVINS, MEEKS ------------------------- There are several Armstead BLEVINS, so the name has apparently been in the BLEVINS family for many generations. For example, the William BLEVINS of early Washinton/Carter Co. TN had a son named Armstead as well. It is believed by most Armstead BLEVINS researchers that my line is the son of Richard BLEVINS and that the Elizabeth BLEVINS who m. Jeremiah MEEKS was Richard's sister. I am familiar with the Moses MEEKS story in Bell Co. and I have recently seen something in detail about this family over the internet, but I don't know if his WIFE's name was mentioned. This is something I will have to check on when I get back from my trip. Thanks for responding. KARUSSELL

Posted on: Llano County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Llano/340 Surname: Shipman, Hollowwa, Anderson, Bullard, Meek ------------------------- Jacquilyn, I saw your posting concerning the Shipman name. My great-grandfather was Armstead Morgan Hollowwa. He had a half-sister named Miscellena Anciebell Anderson whom I believe married a Shipman. Their mother was Rhoda Meek, who married an Englishman named Anderson abt 1852 in Bell Co or Milam Co. I believe this whole area including LLano Co. was part of Milam Co. at one time. Milam Co. was humongous. Miscellena Anderson grew up in Denton Co. where her mother was married to my g-g grandfather, Elisha Dotson Hollowwa, and then in Hill and Johnson Co. where Rhoda was married to Asa Lorenzo Bullard. Of Course, Miscellena had half-siblings by the name of Bullard, also. And her mother raised her own youngest two siblings, Noah and Lydia Meek, after their father was murdered and scalped on the Cowhouse Creek in Bell Co. in 1852. (The two toddlers were 3 and 1 year old. Their mother had died at the birth of Noah.) I would love to find descendants of the Shipmans.

Posted on: Llano County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Llano/338 Surname: Blevins ------------------------- Karolyn, a distant 'cousin' drew my attention to your queries and responses on this site today. I, too, am related to Armstead Blevins. I don't have the particulars at the moment, but wanted to send this, as I noticed you are leaving today for Colorado. My great grandfather was Armstead Morgan Hollowwa. His mother was Rhoda Meek Anderson Hollowwa. Her father was Moses Meek, who was murdered and scalped by Indians on the Cowhouse Creek in Bell County, in 1852. Moses Meek's parents apparently were Jeremiah Meek and Elizabeth 'Betsy' Blevins who married in 1802 in Blount County, Tennessee. Do you have this information in your records? I have quite a bit on the Blevins family. someone sent me a Blevins family tree. I am trying desperately to find who the wife of Moses Meek was. I have more detail on these two families. I believe we are related as the Armstead given name was used a number of times, down through the generations. What do you have?

    3. Posted on: Llano County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Llano/337 Surname: BLEVINS, PAINTER, POINTER, PINTER ------------------------- This is from my own notes on this family: 1880 Llano Co. TX #465/472 Squire BLEVINS age 40 AR TN TN Catherine 39 TN TN TN son (Nay??) 19 AR AR TN Andrew 12 TX AR TN Riley 8 I. Nation AR TN Virginia 4 (where born not recorded by me--may be on the original Julia MARS (?) 18 AR AR AR (listed as NIECE) My personal notes say Squire is a NEPHEW to the other Llano Co. area BLEVINS of which I descend. I am a descendant of Armstead and Delila Shults Blevins. I don't have time to locate what information I might have on this family as I am leaving for Colorado for 10 days in the morning, BUT off the top of my head, this might help. I have found this other name you mention written as PAINTER and POINTER in other records. There was a Georgia PAINTER, and I believe she may be listed in Llano Co. death records in the early 1900's. Also there is a marriage license for a Mrs. POINTER/PAINTER in San Saba that ties into this family, but I can't recall who she married. (Armstead's brother, Andrew Jackson BLEVINS lived in San Saba Co. around 1870) One of the Llano Co. BLEVINS married his cousin, Angeline BLEVINS, daughter of Andrew Blevins of Grayson Co. TX. This Squire could tie into them since Angeline and her husband lived in Llano Co. in 1880 also. In 1900 Young Co. TX pct. 5 there was a SQUIRE E. BLEVINS born 10-40 age 59 MO, listed as the father-in-law of Andrew Power. The name and age are right, but could be someone else. Also in 1900 his wife was listed as Lucinda P. born 2-44 age 50 TX. When I get back from my trip, I will try to do better on this, but this is all I can do now. Karylon A. Russell, BOx 823, Llano, TX 78643 krussell@moment.net

    3. Posted on: Llano County Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tx/Llano/335 Surname: WHITLOCK, HAILE, GARNER, COOPER ------------------------- F.M. WHITLOCK was in Llano Co. by 1860, as a single man age 34, and living in the home of Isaac Sampson HAILE and wife Sarah Ann GARNER, on the Llano side of the Colorado River near present area of Long Mountain. Since Mr. WHITLOCK is referred to as MARION on the 1870 Census for Llano Co., it is assumed his full name was Francis Marion, since in that time period, these two names were frequently together. In 1870, F.M. was married to SUSAN ? born in KY with 4 children in their home. The oldest, William was 4; Sarah 2, Mary 1, and Franklin 3/12. Since the massacre took place in 1870, it was just a few months after this census was taken Yes, William was referred to as Willie in other articles written about this event, and yes, he was living in Arizona in 1925. Even though he knew who he was and remembered the event, he did not want to come back to the white world. F.M. may have known the Hailes back in Union Co. S.C. where they were in 1850 since the 1870 census says F.M. was also born in S.C. The family are all buried together in a mass grave on the Burnet side of the Colorado, near their home, in the Hoover's Valley Cemetery. The road to the north of this cemetery was the original road that crossed the river there at what was referred to as the Ft. Mason crossing. It is not know who F.M.'s wife, Susan, was, BUT she MAY have been Susan Cooper, daughter of Calvin & Sarah F. Cooper, who was 12 in 1860.
