Texas Death Certificates started in 1903. Of course compliance with the new regulations took a few years especially in rural areas. It has been my experience that Death Certificates were recorded much better that birth certificates. The Dallas Public Library Genealogy section has the complete Texas Death Certificate INDEX on microfilm for the years 1903-1976. Try writing to the genealogical librarian to check if the deaths are on the INDEX, then using the registration number you can order the certified copy from the Dept of Health in Austin Texas.
