Hoping someday to find the marriage record of my grandparents - Hugh McLaurin Smith and Laura Katherine Bell (sometimes spelled Catherine), married September 4, 1887. As written in her father's journal, Laura and Hugh were married "at home" on the farm "..beautifully situated three miles north from the town of Tehuacana on the Tehuacana and Corsicana road..." (So described in the sale poster, 1904.) Her father was Dr. Charles M. Bell who moved from Alto to the farm near Tehuacana in 1863 with his wife, Mary Catherine (Sickenberger) and baby son, Theodore Everitt Bell. Laura and her other siblings were all born at the farm between 1864 and 1880 (Florence Ida Bell Kirk, Jonas Prescott, Laura Katherine Bell Smith, Fidelia Bell Needham, Blanche Rose Bell Eastwood, Edward Hinman, and Clara/Clarissa Bell Ingram). Mary Catherine Bell is buried in Tehuacana Cemetery; Dr. Bell's resting place remains a mystery. He did remarry after Mary Catherine's death in 1885, but he neglected to mention the dear woman's name... and so far, I've not been able to identify her.
