To all who have responded to my query: I apologize for not making myself clear in the first e-mail. I think the Limestone County census taker for Precincts 1, 2, and 3 in 1850 might have confused the order of the pages in his book ( pages 359, dwelling & family no. 46 through page 364, dwelling & family no. 143). Maybe he turned two pages by mistake and flipped back to complete the blank pages after he recognized his error. The way they are listed, the families don't line up as well as they would if taken in a different order. Am I the only one who has noticed this? Maybe I am dreaming, but I don't think so. In these pages, it seems like there are more likely family continuances present than the census says. For example, Page 361-B ends with the family of Emanuell Clements: Dwelling & Family No. 96 39. Emanuell Clements w/m 36 yrs Farmer $600 KY 40. Martha Clements w/f 34 yrs TN 41. Benjamin Clements w/m 13 yrs MS 42. William Clements w/m 11 yrs TX The family continues at the very top of Page 360: Page 360 1. M.J. Clements w/m 9 yrs TX 2. James Clements w/m 7 yrs TX 3. Emanuell Clements w/m 5 yrs TX 4. Margaret Clements w/f 3 yrs TX 5. Joseph H. Clements w/m 7/12 TX 6. William Clements w/m 27 yrs KY Another example is that Page 364 ends with the family of Joseph B. Hardin: Dwelling & Family No. 136 37. Joseph B. Hardin w/m 46 yrs Tavern Keeper $2,000 TN 38. An Hardin w/f 40 yrs MO 39. Mara L. Criswell w/f 19 yrs LA 40. Martha B. Hardin w/f 18 yrs AR 41. Margaret H. Hardin w/f 15 yrs MS 42. Nancy G. Hardin w/f 9 yrs TX and seems to pick up again at the top of page 362-B: Page 362-B 1. Ann A. Hardin w/f 6 yrs TX From these examples, page 360 should follow page 361-B, and page 362-B should follow page 364. The way I see it, the census would read a lot better if the pages were arranged as follows: AS RECORDED: SHOULD BE: PAGE 359 Teague/Jessop PAGE 359 Teague/Jessop PAGE 359-B Jessop/Campbell PAGE 359-B Jessop/Campbell PAGE 360 Clements/Burnett PAGE 360-B Longbotton/Powell PAGE 360-B Longbotton/Powell PAGE 361 Powell/Self PAGE 361 Powell/Self PAGE 361-B Dunn/Clements PAGE 361-B Dunn/Clements PAGE 360 Clements/Burnett PAGE 362 Bateey/Colb PAGE 362 Bateey/Colb PAGE 362-B Hardin/Self PAGE 364 Ridlin/Hardin PAGE 363 Foster/Nix PAGE 362-B Hardin/Self PAGE 363-B Downs/Self PAGE 363 Foster/Nix PAGE 364 Ridlin/Hardin PAGE 363-B Downs/Self PAGE 364-B Barnett/Henson PAGE 364-B Barnett/Henson Am I off in left field? Please let me know.
