In 1935 a Bi-stone Empire Pioneer Club was organized seemingly by the Mexia Daily News. Letters stating interest in joining the organization and a short autobiography of the person seeking membership were published in the Mexia Daily News. The letters were addressed to W. K. Boyd, president and general manager of the paper and to B. H. Broiles, editor. Members were from Limestone and Freestone counties. There is a picture taken in front of the Mexia City Auditorium at the Mexia Public Library with a banner behind a group of people which reads, Pioneers Headquarter. My mother, a native of Wortham, recognized one couple in the picture that were from Wortham. Perhaps there were some meetings of the group at the auditorium. I was unable to find microfilm of the Mexia Daily News at the paper and at the library. The issue my family has is dated Oct. 16, 1935. One of my great grandmothers, Martha Waddell "Pattie" Alford Thetford, wrote a letter stating her interest in joining the club which was published in this issue. Part of her letter is missing. There is great history and information in most of the letters. Does anyone have any ideas where all the issues pertaining to the group might be found? Kae Moody Shaw "A Limestone Co.
