    1. Re: [TXLIMEST] LIMESTONE CO. RESEARCH
    2. Thanks Pat. That line(Phifer) is of the son of Lansford Ayers who came to Koose c. 1881 with wife Elizabeth. They came the Miss- Delta region. Lansford was known as Col Ayers in Kosciusko, MS. He was a blacksmith and repaired wagon implements. He didn't serve in the Civil War but was a Mason and that is indicated on his headstone and that of his son Rodney Ayers. They also might have brought their slaves( already freed) with them to Kosse as both Cato and Ben Ayers were trained in the blacksmith trade. Elizabeth , Col's wife made it to TX, but we have been unable to locate her grave. Circa 1885, her initials appear was on a land deed. Which leads me to believe she made it to TX with Col. They might have traveled with other family on a wagon train. Col. Lansford Ayers is buried in Kosse and we have visited his grave, but ran out of time to do research. His daughter was a Miss Bettie Ayers Embry who taught at Chula Vista and Harmony schools near Kosse. I have been unable to locate any records on her as a teacher, but it is said she made an incredible impact on the children in the area. Another son was Rodney also buried in Kosse. This is where the Phifer's come in. Thanks for your time. I would most appreciate anything you could find. Col. died in 1888. Thanks again. I will forward this info onto the Phifer bunch. Shelby :-) Also the name Murff is of this line and Alton Ayers was another son of Col.
