ROALLA McCLUNEY, 96, died on July 17, 2004 at the Holly Hall Retirement Community. She was born on June 19, 1908 in Groesbeck, Texas to Edwin and MaeBelle Smith. She was raised in Groesbeck where she attended the Groesbeck public schools. Roalla received a B.A. from Southwestern University, in Georgetown, Texas. She also did graduate work in speech at Wayne University, in Detroit, Michigan. On December 26, 1934, she was united in marriage to Samuel McCluney in Austin, Texas. Roalla was the founder and director of the Rosam School of Charm and a speech teacher for four chapters of The Speaker's Institute. She was the past president and substitute teacher of the Fidelis Sunday School class of The First United Methodist Church in Houston. She was a former member of the General Board of the Houston Day Chapter of The Women's Aglow Fellowship. She wrote 3 songs and authored a book titled "'Outwit The Devil" in which she recounts numerous personal experiences of God's intervention and instruction. She is survived her by nieces, great nieces and great nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, and her husband. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 at the chapel of Holly Hall Retirement Community, 8304 Knight Road. Interment will be in the Faulkenberry Cemetery, Groesbeck, Texas.
