Leldon Arlo "Buddy" Herod, 95, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2004. He was born April 12, 1909 in Limestone County, Big Springs, Texas to his parents Samuel David and Matilda Jane Lenamond Herod. Leldon joined the CCC Service in 1933; by 1935 he was working in the oil fields near Corpus Christi, Texas. On June 30, 1937 he married Gladys M. Staples in Beeville where they made their home. In 1942 Leldon worked at Chase Field in Beeville, Texas until 1945 returning to the oil field to work. In 1965 he began working at the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi, Texas at the power plant where he retired in 1976. Leldon after retirement enjoyed his family, friends, and all the senior citizen activities!! Leldon was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Matilda Lenamond Herod; three sisters, Gladys Smith, Macelle Oberg and Elsie Shipp; one brother, E.B. "Bill" Herod. He is survived by a loving wife of 66 years, Gladys Staples Herod of Beeville, Texas; two sons, Leldon Gene Herod his wife, Nacy of Lake City, Texas and Gery L. Herod his wife, Shirley of Tuleta, Texas; six grandchildren, David Herod of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kenneth Herod his wife, Stefanie of San Antonio, Texas, Samuel Glasgow of Lake City, Texas, Jennifer Taylor her husband, Noah of Midland, Texas, Jimmy Herod his wife, Donna of San Diego, Texas, and Kristy Herod of Beeville, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Parker Herod of San Antonio, Texas, and McKenna Taylor of Midland, Texas. Visitation was held 4:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. Friday, May 14, 2004 at Galloway & Sons Chapel with the family present to receive friends from 7:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 15, 2004 at the Church of Christ Church. Interment to follow at Beeville Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are Jack Elder, Jimmy Herod, David Herod, Kenneth Herod, James Staples, and Jess Staples. Honorary Pallbearers are Herman Rose, W. G. "Bobbin" Gayle, and Tom Rogers. Special thanks to Dr. Hogue, Dr. Larakers and saff, Christus Spohn Beeville, Hillside Nursing, Nurses on Wheels Hospice Corpus Christi, Schultz & Wroten pharmacy, and to three dear caretakers, Ellie Porfelio, Sofia Martinez, and Erma Martinez.
