    1. Re: [TXLIMEST] SMITH, COTTEN, THOMAS, HERRING
    2. Pat, thanks for the information about the Smith and Thomas families. It gives me new leads to consider. And thanks also for all the help you give genealogists, I see your name here and there helping people. I have been able to trace my Cottens back a few generations with the help of another Cotten researcher, and I have everything from Abigale to the present. Unfortunately, a VERY unexperienced person has grafted my great grandfather onto a Cotten tree, and gave him a whole set of new children, etc. and posted it on the internet. What a mess! I know it is false, because I was raised living about 2 or 3 miles from my great grandfather, and he died while I was in my twenties. I have written a story about my Cottens and posted it on the Henderson County Genweb site at:Robert & Mary Frasure Cotten, Henderson Co., TX url: http://www.rootsweb.com/~txhender/bios/rmfcotten.htm Thanks again for your reply. 1. Coolidge pictures/rollcall
    2. Bob, This is a quiet list compared to others. While your taking roll call, I need to ask for volunteers to help me post the Coolidge Cemetery pictures to the web. I have most of them taken for three of the cemeteries, however, preparing them for posting on the Limestone site is very time consuming. They must be around 20 kb in size, unless they become unreadable. Sometimes they require some rotation or cropping. I need to find one or two persons that are knowledgeable in preparing them. These pictures become the property of the Limestone rootsweb site once they are posted. Volunteers can post to the site and I will get back to them. Rondina P. 3. Betty I can understand how you feel about the new family for your GGrandfather . I have been there with my Samuel Washington Lindley family. Someone wanted in the DAR so the just fit him into a family that had a Samuel Lindley & was easy to just slide our Samuel Washington into this family. I finally spent several yrs. researching the family of the other Samuel Lindley & was able to get most of it straight. They have people in the DAR with the wrong line. Our Samuel Washington Lindley's Grandfather was John Pyle & his father John Lindley both fought in the REV. WAR but not so easy to prove as the Samuel Lindley line that went to William Lindley. Get your proof together on your line & ask the post be removed that you have the proof it is wrong. Also consider that it may be a man with the same name that is almost the same age. This causes much confusion. I will keep my eye open for your Smith / Thomas connection. I have found some amazing connections between families that came to LCT with the help of lots of Limestone Co. genealogists. Some of this group has worked together since the early 1990s. Maybe Barbara Thomas is not real busy & can jump in & help you. I will always believe that these groups of people that came to Limestone Co knew each other in the areas they came from. 3. Joanna The only Staten I have is Ellen Staten b: 1839 married Daniel S Monaghan & were in the LCT 1880 census. The only Gilford I have is Mary Conner Gilford b:1846 married John Fowler they are buried at Pottershop Cem in LCT. John Fowler owned the potter shop in Oletha LCT. Their house still stands in the area & is beautiful still today. My Grandmother talked of John Fowler often when I was a child but I find no connection between our families just neighbors. I would bet you have a connection to one of these females some how these are not common LCT names. 3. Betty I have a Ewell Smith married to Anna Thomas in my data base that came to Limestone Co. TX. This family was in Dallas Co. ARK in 1850. Anna Thomas was the dau of David Thomas & Hannah Burson/Burton , David Thomas died in Dallas Co ARK but Hannah came on to Limestone Co. with her kids. I do not have all the kids of this family so you might want to look at this line. This family must have come out of GA by where the kids were born. I have not tracked them back from ARK yet. Barbara Thomas works this line also. She has been of great help to me on the Thomas lines. Sorry I have very few Cotten families & the ones I have go into the 1900s.
