I have been tacking the families of Limestone Co & early Robertson Colony to see how many of them had connections before coming to TX. I have found in VA,TN, ARK, TX connection with the Looney/Luna, Hogan , Lauderdale, now Sharp & McClelland families that all ended up in the same area in TX. I find this interesting & it will also help others locate their ancestors who are not as lucky as we have been in locating ours. I made several trips to TN before I was able to iron the kinks out of my Looney/Luna line. I do not want any "stuff" I just found some info in a book I ordered & was able to connect it up with documents I found concerning the Sharp & McClelland families & thought it might help some one else. I am a Looney/Luna descendant & have much info I have collected over the yrs. In fact one of the descendant of a brother of the original Peter Looney <my line> signed my DRT Papers. I have visited the grave site of old Peter Luna in Marshall Co TN. I can not tell you the number of families that I have worked out of Limestone Co & found ancestors for. I only work on Sharp or McClellan family in connection with my Limestone Co data base. I always keep my eye open for info on a family in my LCT data base & keep the email addresses of the people I work with behind their family so if I find someone working the same lines I can send them on to their own group. No great interest in the Sharp/McClelland lines just another Limestone Co family. I was born & raised in Limestone Co & have found connections between families that have shocked me. The families in Limestone Co have been great to help me with this project since I started some yrs ago. I have helped lots of others also & want to thank all that have helped me. Most of the people I want to thank are not even on the internet. I found a 1st cousin of a friend of mine last month that she did not even know existed, she is in her 80s & he is in his 90s & lives in TN she is in Limestone Co. Wanda I have not done a lot of McClelland work just what I find in Limestone Co that changed the spelling I think to McLelland. I have a few McClellan family members. I have done some work in Robertson Co but usually it was chasing a Limestone family. I have spent way too much time today looking for my documentation on the John McClelland family in VA. As a great granddaughter of Spencer Sharp, I have oodles of McClellan, Looney and Sharp info. There were lots of McClellans who came to Oklahoma in its very early days, iand pioneered in Arkansas. There is one branch of the family in Texas, in Walker and Montgomery counties. How much stuff do you want? I don't have as much on the Looneys, but I do correspond with a Looney descendant who has given me some info. Again, how much do you want? love joan

Got a surprise today when I received the Lauderdale book I had order . I was working on the Limestone Co TX Lauderdale family & what do I find but my own ancestress Margaret Lauderdale Looney McCain b: 1739. The Lauderdale descendants in Limestone Co came from a brother to my Margaret Lauderdale Looney McCain. What really surprised me was when I went searching the Limestone Co data base & find a Robert Looney Sharp. Then I get into the old Looney info out of Botetourt Co VA records I find this from Leroy Tilton's Early Looneys in America. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> At about the same time, when the will of Edward Sharp, dated 8 May, 1770, was probated in Botetourt County (Will Book A;1), the Executors were father-in-law, John McClelland and brother-in-law, William McClelland. John Sharp was granted administration. The widow was Jane Sharp, and the securities were David(2) Looney and Abraham McClelland. (The widow, Jane McClelland Sharpe had married second, Samuel Gamble.) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The above David Looney who married Mary McClellan/McClelland it the bro to my Peter Looney who married Margaret Lauderdale. This Mary McClellan had a sister Jane who married Edward Sharp the Grandfather of Anthony & Spencer Sharp who came to Limestone Co TX. This is how Anthony & Spencer Sharp's brother Robert Looney Sharp got his name. We may also find a McClelland connection to the ones that came to Limestone Co TX. I now have 4 kids of John McClelland & am looking for more in all my Looney info. Pat Oates in TX
It is halfway between Mexia and Wortham, on the right side, in the middle of a huge pasture without roads (as of 1976 or so). I believe at that time it was owned by a Dr. Johnson. Gate was locked. Admission by permission only. I have as complete a transcription as I could get at that time. One part was fenced and well cared for. The other part - where the Lindley family was - was overgrown badly and cows had overturned and broken almost all the stones. The last time I was in the area I could not remember the dirt road to take to get to the locked gate. The cemetery was NOT withing an easy walk of the gate. ----- Original Message Follows ----- From: MikePruit9@aol.com To: TXLIMEST-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [TXLIMEST] Lindley Cemetary Date: Thu, 10 Feb 2005 21:16:06 EST > Does anyone know where the Lindley Cemetary is located > near Mexia, Tx and who owns the land and it is accessible > to the public? Does this Roark line include a writer named Garland? Garland Roark wrote several books in the 1930-40 years, including "Wake of the Red Witch" which was made into a movie starring John Wayne. My mother, who was born in Limestone County in 1900 and grew up there, always told us she knew Garland Roark well when she was young, but I don't know the particulars. love joan
Just found a Quinton Roark in the 1850 Choctaw Co MS census western div living with the Thomas Flint Waller family. This Thomas F Waller came to LCT by the mid 1850s. Quinton Roark 30 GA Thomas F Waller & his wife Martha Louisa Stephens both were born in Baldwin Co GA so this may be a good place to look for the Quinton Roark family . Pat Oates in TX
Debra and Heather, I could not find them in the 1870 either, not his first name or her's. They could be living with someone else and just not showing up. Debra , if you are using HQ and Internet Explorer Browser, you can send the actual image, not as an attachment. My ISP sometimes won't let attachments through. I don't know about the other ISPs. Heather, I did find Quinton and Kathrine on GenCircles. She shows there to have been married before to a J. R. McAlester. It is in Trotter/Foy ancestors by Berry Kirkland. Hope all this helps someone. Good luck on all your research. Searching for John M Grammer (my gg-grandfather) In 1875 (August 12) He shows up in the LIMESTONE CO. TX records with a marriage license to Susan Predonia Champion. In 1880 he shows up in the HUNT CO. TX Federal Census Records as: John M. Grammar born in Mississippi about 1856, parents born in Alabama. He is married to Susan with two small girls, Lillia 4 yrs old and Ella 2 yrs old. At the time of the census, in June, his wife Susan was pregnant with their third and last child, William Henry Grammer who was born December 24, 1880. (Notice the spelling has changed from one record to the next) What happened next?? In August of 1882, Susan remarries in LIMESTONE CO. TX to Calvin C. Jones. She would NEVER speak of him (John M Grammar) again to anyone. Sometime between June 1880 and August 1882 John M Grammer disappears. Did he die? Run off? Our family has been searching for the answer to this question since Susan's death in 1938. We appreciate your help. BTW: There were several other Grammer's in the 1880 HUNT CO. Census records that could have been John M Grammer's brothers/relatives, but I have not been able to pin anything down. THANKS, Kendra Grammer Brown
