Pat, I have children of B.F. Hammond and Sarah Burns as follows: Benjamin B. - born 1864 D. B. - born 1868 Icy - born 1871 M. Frank - born 1872 Sally - born 1874 Thomas H. - born 1880 Where did you find a son W.R. born 1866? Sally Hammond married David C. Williams. At one time there was a family Bible for sale in the antique store in Groesbeck that seemed to be from this family. Lots of Williams names in it and a couple of Fergusons. Also a paper pinned inside with B.F. Hammond's family. There was even mention of family dogs in the Bible: "Rover died Dec. 8, 1916" and "Bigon died June 20, 1920, a car run over him". Barbara

Hi Pat, I am with you on thinking Mary was a Ware. However, I am not sure that the Hancocks on the Gonzales Census were our Lewis Ross and Mary. I cannot think of any reason they would have gone from TN to Gonzales, especially since LR enlisted in May 1861 in the Texas Cavalry during the CW. Also, the ages do not fit for LR and Mary as he would have only been 31 at that time and Mary would have been abt. 22. However, as we all know, folks travelled all over the countryside back then---even more than we do now---so I sure wouldn't count that out as a possibility---especially since there were two Ware children living with the same family as LR and Mary! And, of course there is the 1850 Census of Limestone where there was a Nancy and a Mary Ware living with James and Margaret Ware. This just gets curiouser and curiouser doesn't it? One thing I found out about the Wilson/Cannon Co. Hancocks is that they apparently lived in a sort of "Hallow" (or Holler) of some 500 ac. which straddled Sycamore Creek. Most of the Hancocks lived adjacent to one another as they grew of age. I guess Lewis and Frankye needed all that room as they raised 10 children of their own plus 6 of his brother's children there. Anyway, this is an interesting puzzle and I am so glad so many of you are helping to figure it out. I've needed something to bring me out of the doldrums of this rainy yucky weather! Timothy This Hammond family was the same one that lived around the area of Hammond in Robertson Co TX I think. I have not worked this Hammond line out & really should. I have a Hammond line in Robertson Co TX but can find no connection with this Hammond line. Mine is George W Hammond came to Bremond in the 1870s from Giles Co TN. I have worked on this George Hammond line for yrs & find no connection as of now. There is info around on these Hammond families from Hammond Robertson Co TX just have never pulled it all together. I want to think that the family that owned the Hammond Factory in Waco TX was from this line. Herberta Mask did a book on the obits of the Kosse TX area & if she is still on this list she may know of the family you are searching for. I know I have seen the name William Rayford Hammond. Edna Lee Burroughs no dates married Fred Broxton/Braxton b: abt 1910. I do not have a connection between these 2 females but strange that name would turn up in Limestone Co also. Pat, Am afraid 1866 is much too young. I think Susan was 25 when she died. That would make her father age 11 when she was born. The picture claims it was take on the 50th wedding anniversary in 1911. Dates on the tombstones mention he was born in 1840 and Eliza in 1850. Could be that the pict was taken in 1921 but the dresses date earlier. Perhaps its a 40th or 30th wedding anniversary. BTW, he owned land in Robertson county. Mineral rights still in the family....but spread very thin. The picture is a family portrait but other pictures show a couple of spouses. Have some digitized. Daughter Lela married a T. A. Griffin. Daughter Velma married Roscoe Patrick Henry. Daughter Susan married John Ralls(Rawls?) Henry. Velma moved to Oklahoma City. Jean What makes me think that Mary may have been a Ware also is the fact on one of the census it had a W after Mary. You would think this was the initial of her middle name but on other women I have found that it can also be the 1st letter in their maiden name. I have found this more than one time on other females. After someone posted the census info on this line it sure looks good for her to be the Mary out of the Ware line. She has her bro & sister in the house with she & Lewis in Gonzales Co and everything fits her family real well. I had not taken the time to go to Cannon Co TN & look at the Limestone Co Hancock families until that post from the message board last night. I found living next door to them the Willard family that a son's family came to Limestone Co after the Civil War also. That young D B Willard was living with RA Hancock & Lewis Hancock in 1850 Cannon Co TN now I am wondering if there is some connection of this Willard family to the early Hancock families. Just have to keep digging & see if I can find a marriage for this William Willard next door to the Hancock family. Anyone on the list working on the Barnett family that lived in Oletha? Does anyone know where Benjamin Barnett's wife's maiden name M Eveline Cole came from? I ran into this Benjamin Barnett & wife in the 1850 KY census this week living with a Moore family that also came to Limestone Co in the 1850s. Mort Magee b:abt 1830 KY married Lidia F Nelson b: abt 1839 TX dau of Samuel Nelson & Sarah Smith Nelson. Mort Magee died in the Civil War per Hampton Steele Book. They were in the 1860 Limestone Co TX census with 3 kids Samuel Nelson, Mary J, Mortimer Madison. I lose all that family after 1860. Sarah Smith Nelson is the dau of Sion & Sarah Smith.
