Tim I just finished searching the world :>) well almost for that Benjamin Hammond in 1850 & 1860 & turned up nothing. I can not find him or his bro. Daly P Hammond. Both state born MS but they will not turn up on a search. Feel sure that Daly P is using some other name & have no idea what that P stands for. Felt sure I could turn Benjamin up but nothing anywhere around the 1833 birth date I have for him. Has anyone found him before TX census? Pat Oates in TX

Pat, The Grady I know is Grady Henry, son of John R Henry and Sussie Hammond. The first son of this pair was John Allison Henry. If your Rayford Hammond is the one in Kosse, William Rayford Hammond, we probably have a match. Remember, all I know of the Hammonds is from the picture my dad's first cousin had. Now if I can find the original misplaced at home tonight, I will label each and get back to you. The pict was taken AFTER Susie died in 1900. Its a family portrait. You would be the first I met of cousins in that side of the family. I have no idea where everyone got to. Tim To this point I can find no connection between my George Hammond & this Benjamin Hammond line. I always wondered if there was some distant connection but can or have not found one at this time. This Hammond family looks like from the census they came from MS. My TN Hammond went to MS for a few yrs. but went back to TN. Parents of my George Hammond were Isaac & Malinda Luna Hammond. It was a pretty small family for that day in time. I wondered why my Hammond family came to Robertson Co TX for yrs. then I finally found a tie between my Luna line & the Limestone Co Hogan line. I think this is what brought my Hammond family to this area of TX. just no proof. No one in my family ever knew about this Hogan/Luna connection until I found it working on my Limestone Co data base. There are many death cert. missing from the Limestone Co area about this time. My own GGrandparents who died in Limestone Co in the 1920s do not have death cert. Limestone Co refused to keep these records until the state got into it. What records they kept were just hit & miss type. They did not even do birth cert. until way after they were to start in 1903. Lots of Limestone Co people had to get delayed birth records when they were grown. It is sad for all of us chasing our ancestors but that is just the way it is & we have to work with what we can find. I do know that the person who was keeping the vital records for the south east area of Limestone Co <Oletha area> did not turn the records he kept into the court house & when they found this it was too late, I was told, for then to be filed. No one has any idea where these records went. Lynda You have much more on this family than I do. As I told Barbara I just have not worked on this line very much. I do have Icy Phenie married to Philip Henry Magee/McGee my spelling is Magee b: 14 May 1861 OH, picked this family up from the 1900 LCT census. Had Sallie married to Claude D Williams he is the son of William Floyd "Buck" Williams & Amanda Walling. Again on some of this info. I ref the obit book by Herberta Mask as source. Sister of Claude D Williams is Nancy A Williams b: 1842 married Henry Clay Ferguson & sure would like to know what set of Fergusons he came from. I know there is more info on these families to be found just have not stopped & gathered it all. I have seen the names of these Hammond kids doing research on my own Hammond line in Robertson & Limestone Co TX. Barbara I must have picked him up in one of the census. I have him in the 1870, 1880, 1900 census & some info from this family came from the obit book Herberta Mask did on the Kosse families. D B b: 1868 is Dalay B I think. all I have on the child M Frank is MF b: abt 1873 male but I do have a son Frank no dates just a name. Don't have the son Thomas H b: 1880 at all. Sure would like to have a copy of that bible. How long ago was it when you saw it. I have not been in any of the antique stores in Groesbeck in ages. I have not really worked on this family much. At one time there was a family Bible for sale in the antique store in Groesbeck that seemed to be from this family. Lots of Williams names in it and a couple of Fergusons. Also a paper pinned inside with B.F. Hammond's family. There was even mention of family dogs in the Bible: "Rover died Dec. 8, 1916" and "Bigon died June 20, 1920, a car run over him". > >Barbara

Tim I found John and susie Henry on the 1900 Limstone co Tx census with 2 children Allison age 4 and Grady age 2 both sons is this yours they are in Kosse District 60 on Sheet 9 A ED 60 SD 9 Princt 5 John and Susies names are very diffucult to read John is listed as R Henry on the census index of Ancestry I can read susies name was she born in Tx and her parents in MS She was born Dec 1873 him Apr 1871 she had 2 children with 2 still living they are listed as being married for 6 years John and his parents are all listed born in Alabama he is listed as a Merchant In 1920 John and charlie B are listed in Sulphur Springs Hopkins co TX with these children Russell B age 11 Charlie T age 7 Jack R age 3 (this might be Harold Jack the dates match) Taylor Martha J (Foster mother in law) Next page SD 1 ED 64 Sheet 8B first of all the first person listed is a female named Nita R listed as martha wife this cant be possible the next family number is 158-190 John and Charlies is 174-208 on the page before This family number does not match the ones before it on the other page with John did you notice that if you have this image you need to check 1920 Hopkins co Tx Sulphur springs for family number 175-209 and see if you can find the rest of Johns family if there is any before this family 175-209 I have learned when a family finishes one page and starts another to make sure to check the family numbers cause sometimes the sheets get mixed up like this one this happened to me in the 1880 Talladega Co AL census they had 2 black children last name was listed as White listed as children of my Mitchum ancestor and I thought ok how is that poss if the mother and father are both white so I went looking through all the pages and found 2 more Mitchum children listed with the same black family also with the White last name so apparenlty they mixed up the families I have since learned from descendants that i was correct and those other 2 children where in fact belonging to the one I was researcing Remember we are only human!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO offense to anyone I hope I think I found John R Henry in Robertson Co Tx in 1910 by himself age 39 b LA father born Alabama mother born Ga He is listed as Manager of a farm in District 117 th Princt Stamped page 278 SD 6 Debra Let me know if i can be of more help and next time i go to the Library (Probably Tues next week) I will check the list you sent for them in the TX Death indexes I will copy them as well It could cost me no more than maybe 150 for copies and postage so that is ok so you can have hard copies as well I will check the whole list and send you a email they list name date of death county of death and death cert number that you have to send to Austin for Thanks for the year and names will make it easier If you want i can send you the census images listed above via email Dont mind helping a fellow Limestone Co Tx researcher Debra ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tim Henry" <tex@nso.edu> To: <TXLIMEST-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 07, 2005 11:14 AM Subject: Re: [TXLIMEST] William Raiform Hammond > Debra, > The web lists > > Hammond, Eliza Cathron, b. 24 Jun 1850, d. 14 May 1928, Wife of W.R. Debra, Will have to glean for all the details. Grady is my grandfather. Grandma was born north of Sulphur Springs in the tiny community of Nelta. Lots of history on the families that came to Texas from Indiana in the 1840s. I always wondered how grandpa met grandma. Susie died in 1900 of appendicitis. My dad's first cousin found an old obituary for Susie. I could copy and put on this forum if anyone is interested. And do please send the census pages. Is there a Limestone Co historical society that might like some old picts of some early inhabitants? Most are buried right there in Kosse, TX cemetery. Hope to visit this summer on vacation and take pictures. Have the picts digitized already. Pat, I have just got to get the obituary book. Might give me the names of cousins to my grandfather. Limestone County says it doesn't have a death cert for either the Hammonds or my Henrys. Neither does Robertson Co. I don't know where to look. Patricia Oates wrote: > Timothy > This Hammond family was the same one that lived around the area of Hammond > in Robertson Co TX I think.
