Mika I am sure if we can get back in time a little more we will find some connection to these Berry families I have. Berry is not that common a name in Limestone Co. Don't give up on me I will keep digging. Shirley & I that were talking Beard earlier tonight have really turned up some good things. If we keep going we may end up kin :>). You just have to keep looking an asking. Pat Oates in TX. At 04:23 AM 5/30/2001 +0000, you wrote: >Hi Patricia and list, > >My g-grandfather was James W. "Jim" BERRY. Pat do you know which William Wilson Beard? So far I have found three of them. James Rose's father was John P. Beard and his father was the first William Wilson. Thanks for replying. I too looked through births, deaths, & marriages. Knowing what I do now, I really need to go back. I did get a copy of my mother's birth and marriage certificate and a copy of my grandfather's death certificate. However, they would not let you make copies, they had to be certified. I now know I should have stayed a few more hrs. and wrote many items down. There records were easy to use. Maybe I'll go back. I am new at this and learning the hard way...mostly from mistakes...Shirley -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, May 29, 2001 6:27 PM Subject: Re: [TXLIMEST] Re: Birth & Death Cert. >Shirley, > >It has taken as long as 12 wks to get death cert from Austin. Shirley, It has taken as long as 12 wks to get death cert from Austin. My experience in Limestone Co is that I found grandfather's & siblings listed as "baby boy or girl" Richardson in the indexes. I did find some death records indexed and they did let me go to the books to look at before making copies. You really did have a long trip if from Corpus Christi. I used to live in CC and now live in Magnolia TX. Not quite so far to Limestone Co. :>). Deborah Magnolia TX
Shirley I just got into a Beard/Cox/King connection today in my Limestone Co. data base. I have been trying to clean up a Beard family I am working on in Limestone Co. & it lead into the King Cem. group of people. I just checked & do not have a Ellen Leander Cox but do have some Beard men with no wives. Some of this is the James Rose Beard family. It is not that Limestone Co does not have what records that were kept in order. They just did not keep them back in that time frame. The records that Limestone Co. has are well kept today. The fact that you can not find a birth or death cert. in the courthouse has nothing to do with how the records are kept today. David You will find that Limestone Co. had a real problem getting the death & birth records recorded. My GGrandparents died in the 1920s in the Oletha area which is in the south east corner of Limestone Co. & they did not have a death cert. recorded. I have been told that the state of Texas came in & threatened Limestone Co. with a suit for not complying with the orders to record these events. Also my Father was born in Limestone Co. in 1913 & he got his birth cert. when he joined the army during WW2. Pat Oates in TX. I have a Unknown Berry married to a Julia who married Jeremiah Thomas "Judd" Little & had a family. I show her with 3 Berry children Felix, Conrad & a Bertha. Texas Death Certificates started in 1903. Of course compliance with the new regulations took a few years especially in rural areas. It has been my experience that Death Certificates were recorded much better that birth certificates. The Dallas Public Library Genealogy section has the complete Texas Death Certificate INDEX on microfilm for the years 1903-1976. Try writing to the genealogical librarian to check if the deaths are on the INDEX, then using the registration number you can order the certified copy from the Dept of Health in Austin Texas. My best quality copy of the index was not good enough for my OCR Scanner. Came out sort of like Swahili although the text is clear enough. My apologies to all who requested an e-mail copy of the index. It is 119 pages - much to bulky to e-mail 119 JPEG format pages. So if anyone is interested in a zerox copy via snail mail - my cost per each will be $2.40 postage + 0.21 for an envelope. Please send your snail mail address to David Strickland [email protected] I'll mail the index out, and you can send me a check for $2.61 when you receive the package.
