Does anybody have an answer? Please note Mr. Malone's e-mail address, as he might not be on this mail list. David ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Fri, 16 Nov 2001 00:50:35 EST From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: Sowders cemetary. My name is David Malone. My fathers side of the family were from Kosse Texas. His parents are buried in the Eutaw cemetary , as well as sons and daughters. I know , that there is a Sowders cemetary. It is unacessable. It also shows up on a Texas map. It is a bit of a mystery. I understand by law that it has to be accesible.I was there a few years ago , and found the area , where it should be. The sowders were my granfathers side of the family. They are buried there , for the cemetary was named after them. I have little information on this , for everyone has passed. I was hoping you could help me with this matter.. Any information that you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you David Malone

Dev, can you (or anyone else on the list) give me ANY further information on these Cook folks -- Edward, Augustus and Aurena Jane Uzzell? Their ages? (Was THIS Augustus Cook the one who was first county surveyor of Robertson County in the 1830s?) Any connection to Wilds K. Cook? Source of the name Uzzell? Any marriage for Aurena Jane? I'm still hunting for information on my 2nd great grandparents Thomas Garrard and Jane Wilds _____. Thomas Garrard was in Springfield, Limestone Co. at the 1850 census. Thomas had married by 1860 and is in Coryell Co. with wife Jane and Child Elizabeth. They both died in the fever epidemic of 1873 leaving about three children -- John, Sophronia (Dora) m. McCain in Ellis Co.and Jessie m. Campbell in Robertson County. I have found the following cemetery recording Robertson Co.: "Mount Vernon Cemetery Calvert/Owensville: GARARD, J. WILDS, h Thomas Garard." Regards, Karen Trouvat

Hey Jane, I noticed something interesting about your first query on H.O. Whitehurst. You said something about him being form Bell co. My Gggrandfather William Rufus michum (He was the one who married my Mary Ann Whitehurst) was born in a town called Old Howard Community in Bell County Tx I know this because thats is where I was raised in was Killeen which is only 20 miles from Temple. Karen I have a friend who descends from Jane Elizabeth Harlan Cooke Stroud born Dec 1823. As far as I have ever heard she did not have any children with AW Cooke before his death & this info came from the family. She was married to Logan Stroud by 1842 in Robertson Co. TX. I am operating off my laptop because I am between getting a new computer & can not get to all my info. but will print this off & ask my friend for you. Also my Grandmother's sister married one of these Garrard<Jarrard> men in Limestone Co. TX he was William Newton Jarrard. I also have a distant cousin who descends from this line. When I get all my computer things back together will see if I have anything on what you are searching for. Pat Oates in TX. Hi List Folks, Looking to share information with anyone researching the McCAIN families of Ellis County, TX, connected to COOKE, HARLAN or GARRARD families of Robertson, Limestone or Coryell Counties, TX. My great great grandfather, Peter E. McCain and his brother Jacob came to Ellis Co. in 1870's from Marshal Co. AL by way of Red River Co, TX. Peter E. McCain's son Rufus A. McCain married Sophronia Eudora (Dora) GARRARD IN 1876, probably in Ellis Co. She was about 15 years old. They settled in Milford. Sophronia (Dora) Garrard was an orphan whose parents Tom GARRARD and Jane (WILDS) COOKE? had died in a fever epidemic in Calvert, Robertson Co. in 1873. Thomas GARRARD was residing in Springfield, Limestone County at the 1850 census and in Coryell County with wife Jane and the beginnings of their family at the 1860 and 1870 censuses. Jane Wilds was possibly a daughter of Jane HARLAN'S first marriage to Augustus W. COOKE, early settler and first surveyor of Robertson County. When her parents died in 1873, the 11-year-old Sophronia (Dora) was sent to live with relatives in Ellis Co., perhaps a member of the COOKE family? Would anyone know of a connection between Augustus W. COOKE of Robertson Co. and Wilds K. COOKE of Limestone? 1. MCCAIN (b.1790-TN?;d.1830-,TN) sp: Sarah (b.1790-,TN;m.1814;d.1850-,AL) 2. Martha A. I do not have any information on George Sylvester Weaver but am trying to locate family memebers of William E. Weaver. William E. was a methodist minister in Limestone County. He was born in Marion County Alabama and raised in Itawamba County Mississippi. He served in the Civil War. He died in Limestone County and had seven children. Just hoping that he may be connectec to your Sylvester. Any information would really be appreciated. I do have his Civil War records and other records for his family if anyone is interested. His family is the last child of Frederick and Rachel Young Weaver that I have not been able to find. Well Jane, I believe that we are related whitehurst family my ggggrandmother Mary Ann i am through their son Willie Rufus and thenBertie Leora and Lola Faye was my mom. Mary is her first name and Ann her middle name. I have alot of relatives in Waco. As a matter of fact we have a Kimball/Michum reunion every other year and our next one will be next summer in waco. My cousin name is Apala wilson and it is her husband who is actually related but she is still my cousin by marriage and the one doing the reseach. Sure would be nice to finall learn abut our Whitehurst family. In Henry county AL there is a Whitehurst family # 734 in the year 1860 They were Whitehurst, JAJ 39 farmer b AL Elizabeth E 25 b Fl (your Elizabeth?) born in Florida Rebecca A 15 b Fl Martha J 12 b AL Mary A 10 Al (I believe this to be my ggramdmother as she was born in 1851) John M 8 b Al (this could be your John) Caladonia 6 b Al (we believe her to be living with Mary Ann Whitehurst Michum and William Willie Daniel Michum in 1880) William L.G. 5 Al Richard M 3 Al was your John b around 1852 if so then the John above might be your John and my Mary Ann his sister Their are other Whitehurst heads of household that would possibly be this JAJ brothers also 1860 Henry Co AL Bray age 43 b Ga S.A age 47 b AL Micajah age 49 Nc Richard age 31 b AL Also living near by is a John Whitehurst age 67 b NC and Wife Jane age 57 This could possibly be the parents of these children and JAJ Whitehurst right ages for them to be the parents. This is all we have so far on the whitehurst's In my Gggrandfathers journal he wrote that Mary Ann was from Henry co Al I by the way live in Wichita Falls, Tx I have 2 sisters that live around Killeen and one sister who lives in Dallas. My phone is 940-767-6617 and the best time to call me is on Sunday afternoons. I am a stay at home mom with 4 kids and do alot of stuff at the schools for my kids. If you will send me your email address i will send you my gedcom on the little i have on my family to include the info on my Crocketts. I have traced me back 7 generations on the Crockett side. And a few on other branches of my extended family. Way back to my ggggrandfathers son Andrew Jackson Crockett married a lady who's mother was a Lambert. And Andrews other brother James married a Barbara kelly. Andrew and James were brothers to my gggramdfather Leonard Lewis Crockett. their father was Andrew David Crockett Anyway the Lamberts names are Octavine Candacie Lambert b 1885 married George Washington Dykes Octavines father was Little Berry Lambert who married Julie Lane Cooper and Little Berry parents were Nathaniel Lambert who married a Nancy Sturdivant. I just found Little Berry and Julie's grave in Jasper Co tx in a cemetary called Bessmay. The town was Buna. That is were my Crockett came form after leaving Ms in 1840 I have the obit for all of my Crockett grandparents all the way to Leonard Lewis Crockett and where they are buried. they came form Buna, Jasper Co Tx originally in 1840/41 then after 1880 moved to Thornton then to Watt then to Waco. My mother was born in Watt in 1923. All of her other siblings were born in waco. My ggggrandmother Clarissa Ann Richardson Richardson Crockett Foster was married 3 times and had 13 chilldren and is buried in Atwell Cemetary in callahan County. That was my greatest find as i have a picture of her and know I know where my children get there big ears from. I have found nothing on 4 of her 13 children. James who married Barbara Kelly after they moved from Jaspr co in 1880 David crockett who married a Elzina Ann rutherford. I did find his grave but no descendants of him as of yet burid in Llano Co Martha Crockett (we believe she died before 1870 as she was on the 1860 census a s being 4 in 1860 but gone on the 1870 census. Sarah Crockett possilby married a Aaron Dryden gone off face of earth after 1880. I have been researching for almost 2 years. I have meet alot of relatives over the internet just posting queries everywhere i could. Did ;you notice that your Johns grandmother could possible be named Jane? Well gotta go it is 2am and i have to get up early. if you might want to call me i wont be home until after 9 pm on Sat night and 730 on Friday night. I have to find my address book and i will send you Apala phone number. Her husband is Charles Wilson. Apala's email is [email protected] If we are related then hope to see you at the reunion next summer. Hello Debra! Thanks for writing. Hey, I live in Waco!! This is very interesting indeed. My Whitehurst family came from Henry Co., AL also. We MUST be cousins one way or another. I lived outside of Groesbeck at Lake Limestone for 10 years. My husband and I were from Waco, but he bought this lake lot to be his retirement place. Decided to go on and move there. After 10 years of living in the boondocks I wanted to move back to Waco. But he loved the place and didn't want to. All of a sudden at Christmas 1999, he said we were moving back home. We moved back to Waco in Feb. 2000 and he died May 2000!! Tell me he didn't know something... Anyway, the only Whitehursts in Waco for many a year was just my family of Whitehursts. Didn't know there were any more around. This H.O. Whitehurst was from Groesbeck and it made me wonder about him. I talked to his daughter Frances years ago and she didn't want to talk to me. Said something about his being from Bell Co., Tx, but that his original Whitehurst family came from Henry Co., AL! At that time, I had just started looking for the Whitehursts and didn't know about Henry Co. AL. After I had all this information about them, I called her back right before we moved back to Waco and she wouldn't even talk to me. Said she knew nothing! Then I find out after she died a month or so ago that she and her mother were members of the DAR!! didn't know anything my foot! But, I'm still wondering if he was part of the family, thats the only reason I sent in the query. Off hand I don't remember seeing a Maryann in my files, but I'll sure check it out tomorrow. What is your cousins name, the one in Waco who is researching Whitehurst? Good, lord, we really might be cousins afterall. Last year I went on the internet to check out the Whitehurst forum and there was a girl looking for information about her grandfather, Herbert Monroe Whitehurst. Well that was MY grandfather. I sent her an email and come to find out, she is my uncle Arthur Whitehurst's daughter!! One I didn't even know about. I love finding new cousins. This is wonderful. She and I will have to share our files on the Whitehursts. You too, if you'd like. Mine starts with Elizabeth, maiden name unknown married to an unknown Whitehurst. Her son John is my ancestor. Where do you live? Close by? Maybe we could all get together sometime. I am looking for an obit for George Sylvester WEAVER born Feb 19, 1915 and died Sep 27, 1932. I was told he was killed in an accident involving a school bus. I was also told that his father George Sylvester WEAVER SR, was also killed. I am not sure of these facts and was wondering if anyone could tell me anything. Would it be possible that there might have been an article in the paper about the accident and if so where would I look. I would really appreciate any information. I know George Jr was buried in Forest Glade Cemetery, but can't find his father or mother Bertha. Thanks in advance. Cindy Walder

The volumes in question are titled "A Family History of Limestone County" Vol. 1 & Vol.2., compiled and edited by Limestone County Historical Museum Members. Taylor Publishing Company Dallas, Tx. W. Jay Love, Consultant. I could have bought the Vol II at the Groesbeck Newspaper Office. The editor there said Vol. 1 had sold out and was not in publication. However, he let me look through Vol. 1 and he copied all the articles that I wanted on my family. These Vol.'s are also available at the Maffett Memorial Library in Groesbeck and they will copy any article for you very cheaply. Vol. 2 was being sold at a cost of $60.00. Hope this helps. Thanks so much for the info. I will be staying with relatives. We checked out all the motels in the area a couple of weekends ago and your right, they are bad! The courthouse is very good. Their birth, married and death records are easy to read and work with. The library in Groesbeck has a small section for genealogy but is pretty nice to visit. I found several stories on my Beard Family, you can not copy things from their micro firm because they do not have a printer or didn't when I was there in April. Be sure to take a pencil and pad. The newspaper office did not have any data, they sent us to the library. One thing is for sure. Don't stay at the Limestone Inn, which is convenient because it is right across the street from the courthouse, restaurant, and one block from the library. The place was filthy. The ladies at the courthouse told us about a bed and breakfast place but can not remember the name.
