Death certificates were required in Texas beginning in 1903. However many rural counties resisted until in the teens or twenties. The doctors figured that they were not paid to fill out the forms so they just wouldn't bother. I just came back from the Dallas Public library checking on Lamar County deaths 1900-1920 and didn't find any of the ones that I was looking for (Robertson Family) on the microfilm index.
