If you go to the Lamar GenWeb site, scroll down to OTHER HISTORICAL SITES IN LAMAR CO. and click on LAMAR CHAPTER NO. 258-UNITED DAUGHTERS OF THE CONFEDERACY and then scroll down to PHOTO GALLERY PICTURES OF OLD CEMETERY OF PARIS, TOMBSTONES OF NINTH TEXAS INFANTRY SOLDIERS and it shows pictures of it, but no directions. I am trying to find out if there are any Tidwell, Higgs, Lynn, or Emery ancestors are buried there. All of these surnames are my ancestors that I am researching. I have emailed Red River mail list previously. Any help any would be appreciated, I am only going to have about 3 or 4 hours, so I need to make every one of them count. I am meeting a Tidwell/Lynn in Paris at 10 am. I would like to find a restraunt where we can look over our pictures and books and then we are going to Union Grove cemetery and I would like to check out the Old City cemetery, we were told that Tidwell and Lynn surnames are "possibly" buried there. But I can not prove that, but it is suppose to have some of the oldest graves in Paris. I do not know that for sure, just info passed on. Like I said any info would be most helpful. Thanks Jim for responding. Shirley Jim Giddens <jimgidd@suddenlink.net> wrote: Hello Shirley, This is Jim Giddens from Red River County but I live in Paris and monitor the Lamar site also. I had never heard of the old City Cemetery. I can not find it on the internet except for the listing (not directions etc). However, I would like to help. Do you have any idea approximately where it is located or any clue I may can use. I have a son-in-law that is a native of Paris and knows a lot of history etc of the area. Maybe he can help us tomorrow. I also e-mailed Lawrence Dale to see if he can be of help. I live about 2 blocks from he Union Grove Cemetery. I hope I can help. Give me any tidbits of information you have that may help and I will see what I can do. The web search give a hint of Civil War Veteran(s) being buried there. I have never heard of the Old City Cemetery either. Could you possibly be referring to the Old Lamar County Cemetery? If so , it's located just outside NE Loop 286 on FM195. Every time I pass by there the gate is always locked but you may be able to park in the driveway and walk in.
