    3. I am coming on Oct. 7th. I am meeting Winona Harper in Paris. Her grandparents were Clint and Sally Mae Lynn Tidwell, they are buried in Union Grove Cemetery, along with other Tidwell's and Higgs relatives. My great grandfather Virgie (William Virge) was Clint's brother. In 1900 my Great Great Grandparents Benton and Nancy Parlee Higgs Tidwell lived in Paris, Texas. Nancy was born and raised there. Benton died in 1906, someone said in Haskell county, while visiting his son. Cannot find where he is buried. Nancy died in 1923 in Spur, Dickens, Texas, while living with her son, Thomas Almon. But I cannot find where she is buried either. I am going to meet Winona in Paris at 10 am, my son is going to bring me and we will only be able to stay till about 3 or 4 because my son will have to get back to go to work on Monday. I am also researching Nowell. William Virge Tidwell married Mary Francis "Fannie" Nowell in Paris. They are buried in Grapevine, Texas. But Winona and I are going to focus on our Tidwell and Higgs on the 7th. We hope to meet someplace where we can look thru what material we each have and compare notes and then go to Union Grove and The Old City Cemetery and take pictures. Do you know if anyone else is working on the Tidwell, Higgs, Nowell, Lynn, Emery surnames? Debra, I cannot thank you enough for sending the info about the Old City Cemetery. I was really glad to read it. It makes you kind of sad that it was mistreated in a way. Do you know if it is locked or if you can get in to look around? Thanks again for everything; Shirley BBIRDSWIFE@aol.com wrote: Sorry, don't know that much. When did you say you were coming to Paris? I might be available to go with you to the cemeteries and/or at least help you get around. Just let me know. 3. Old City Cemetery. I am not well verse in Lamar County. However going to the Old City Cemetery gave me a good feeling. This old cemetery only a few block from the Paris square. I have lived in Paris for 11+ years and was raise only 30 miles away, but I had never heard of this cemetery. It is a shame how many of the old markers had been vandalized and broken. Many of the larger pieces of broken marker were laid out under one of the tree, resembled a large tile floor. Then all those tent shaped concrete grave covers (what ever they are called), most with no names but some had newer markers placed beside or in front of them. I did drive completely around the block before deciding were to park and which opening of the fence to walk in. Again, I suggest the south side from the vacant lot. You will need to get on 6th Street and get close to the fence before pulling into the vacant lot. The ground still slopes here, but not a much. I pulled in on a angle to make sure my trailer hitch did not drag. I did walk the entire cemetery and looked at every marker. I enjoyed seeing some of the old history names. I mentioned the A.H. Latimer marker. A.H. Latimer had a section of land in northeast Red River County that was an original land owner in Texas. Before the county seat was in Clarksville, in was in LaGrange (Madras) in A.H. Latimers house. It was he or Hamilton (or both) that was a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence. I took several pictures with my digital of the complete cemetery and of some of the interesting grave markers. 3. Jim, Are you going to publish the pictures on the Lamar Co., Page or one of the many Cemetery Photo pages that are available? I'd love to see them.
